    gator gar help

    any creative cooks out there that will keep this meat on my table and out of my hogtrap. Ive tried gar balls and frying and its not bad just not good either kind of like eating tuff mud marinated catfish.

    I cooked ONE..............stunk my whole kitchen up, smelled like mud and burning moss. Didn't eat it...............there are other fish to eat

          I never understood why people say alligator gar tastes or smells bad. I could fry it up with any other fish and you could not tell it apart. Needle nose taste bad though.

            Fry them like pork skins no batter add salt and pepper dip in melted butter, and a few beers!

              Cause the one I cooked smelled like dirty @$$ Meat was super white though, I had high hopes

                Try one of those redfish on the half shell recipes. Might even make a canoe out of him, stuff him upside down with butter onions garlic and whatever sounds good.

                  Something went wrong for sure. Gator gar is good on the grill. Just be sure you don't get any of the slime from the outside on the meat. Don't ask how I know. Just dont start drinking before you get the dino fish cleaned. I usually let it set in the sun until the outside is dry. Just cut down the middle of the back( I use a skil saw) then downward on each end and peel the backstraps right out. Season to your liking, adding a little lemon juice and grill on foil til done or enclose with foil right before its done and finish that way. Enjoy! Don't try the needle nose this way, too mushy. NN only good as gar balls and not really all that good that way, at least none I've had.

                    In a small bowl, mix together paprika, dry mustard, cayenne pepper, cumin, black pepper, white pepper, thyme and salt; set aside. 2. Pour 3/4 cup melted butter into a shallow dish. Dip each fillet into butter, turning once to coat both sides. Sprinkle both sides of fillets with spice mixture, and gently pat mixture onto fish. 3. Place fillets into a wooden board without crowding. Carefully pour about 1 teaspoon melted butter over each fillet. Cook until fish has a charred appearance, about 2 minutes. Turn fillets, spoon 1 teaspoon melted butter over each, and cook until charred. Then throw the fish in the trash and eat board.

                      You have to trim the meat before frying it. Can't describe it off top of my head but you can't just cut the back straps out then cut them up and fry it. Gotta clean the meat up a lil bit first.

                          I was so into this recipe thinking this could be a great one. Then I got to the end and almost fell out of my chair laughing.

                            I use this exact recipe on duck breast.
