Nick's Blue Cheese and Jalapeño Burgers

Some dude on the net named Nick came up with this little gem...

    --------------Ingredients--------------
    1 lb. Ground beef
    3 Large jalapeños
    4 oz. Crumbled blue cheese
    1 Tbs. Onion powder
    1 Tbs. Garlic powder
1 Tbs. Soy sauce (or Tamari)
    1 Tsp. Salt
    Swiss cheese slices
    Onion buns

    1. Get yourself 3 large jalapeños. Slice in half lengthwise and remove the seeds and threads. If you need some kick, leave some seeds.

    2. Dice them up and throw them into a mixing bowl.

    3. Purchase 1lb of ground beef. I like the fattier variety because it tastes better - say 73% Lean, 27% Fat.

    6. Pour 2 oz. to 4 oz. of blue cheese into mixing bowl depending on your preference.

    7. Get the following ingredients: Onion powder, garlic powder, soy sauce (or Tamari for better flavor), and salt (kosher salt for better flavor).

    8. To the mixing bowl, add 1 tablespoon of onion powder, 1 tablespoon of garlic powder, 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, and 1 teaspoon of salt (or 1 tablespoon if you like it saltier).

    9. Knead together well.

    10. Form into 2 or 3 patties.

    11. Light your grill with a good, natural mesquite charcoal a.k.a. “Cowboy Charcoal.” The flavor is MUCH better than traditional charcoal briquettes. B&B is a good brand.

    12. I have found that the easiest way to light a charcoal grill is to use a starter cylinder. You can pick one up at any Academy or Sports Authority. Just get a 2-page piece of newspaper, crumple it up, and spray it down with olive oil to retard the flame. Stick it in the bottom of the cylinder and fill the top with charcoal.

    13. Light that bad boy through each hole.

    14. After about 20 minutes, you should have flames coming out the top of the cylinder. Pour the coals out in the grill and heat up your grate well so it will get clean. You'll probably want to scrape it once it gets good and heated up.

    15. Get a Rum & Coke

    16. Cook the burgers to your liking. I like mine medium.

    17. Throw 2 or 3 slices of Swiss cheese on each burger and close the lid.

    18. Get that cheese good and melted.

    19. Adorn with your condiments of choice and enjoy.

    the end

I made these this weekend and they are as good as they look. I used 4 lbs of water buffalo burger, a little less blue cheese, a few more jalapenos, and had beer instead of the rum and coke. All in all it was a success! Thanks for sharing the recipe,

                        Steve

This was a big hit with a small group of friends on Saturday. The jalapenos, which I KNOW were very hot before cooking, were actually quite mild (but flavorful) once cooked in the burgers. I was concerned that they would be too hot for some of my guests, but I needn't have worried. These were definitely among the very best hamburgers I've ever eaten. Thanks for posting the recipe.
