i just hooked this thing up and grinded about 5lbs of pork and noticed some metal shavings...wondering if someone else has had this happen to them. i think it just needs to break itself in, im gonna hook up a motor to it tomorrow and run water and greese through it and see if that helps to break it in. any suggestions?

We use Chop Rite grinders. They are more expensive, we had one that last for 30+ years. We bought one from Northern and experienced the same problem. I then went and bought new Chop Rite #32, and have not had a problen. We have a 3/4 hp motor with a v belt on the grinder and that is how we grind it.
