Diamond C review in pics. (lots of them)

Ok, I finally got all the pictures from the guys. I'm going to take y'all through my hunts in order, kinda like a "live hunt". We got to Diamond C at around 2:30 on Friday, May 29th. There were 2 guys out on an afternoon hunt. One's a game warden and the other is a world champion taxidermist. Both from Georgia and both great guys. We finally meet them and Skylar around 3 and then at 5 or so we went out on the Friday evening hunt. I was placed in a very nice elevated bow stand. The first animal I saw was a nice Black Buck that was very dark.

Then a big Elk came in who was still in velvet. I thought, "he's big, but WAY out of my price range.

The BB came back to join him for a while, then they left and a big Fallow buck came in. I thought "he's big, but WAY out of my price range." I wouldn't have taken him even if I could afford it. He was in early velvet still.

Then back at camp I find out my B-I-L got his first bow kill. A good size hog.

And the game warden from Georgia got a nice Black Buck.

We stayed up way too late and finally went to sleep, in order to get up in a couple hours for Saturday mornings hunt.

Saturday morning I was place in a pop-up ground blind. I had the same elk come in early. Followed by a bunch of rams and goats, most of them tagged. After that, I saw a young fallow in early velvet, (every thing seemed to be in early velvet), followed by a bigger fallow buck in velvet and a white tail buck, and then the same big fallow buck from Friday. He stayed a while with the younger fallow buck, and then it was time to get out of the stand.

So I get picked up by Skylar and we head to pick up my buddy Brice. He's the last one to be picked up and he thinks he got a good shot on a Sika doe. There isn't much blood on the arrow and we all sludge through the mud and brush to try and track her. We only needed to follow Skylar's awesome 10 month old tracking dog Mazee. She followed that sika doe (no blood that I could see), into a good sized stock tank. The doe was still alive on the other side of the tank resting on the bank. We all split up and tried to get Brice a shot with his boe at the doe, but she kept swimming out to the middle of the tank. Finally she made her way back the the bank on the other side and Brice, and Andy ran over there to try and get a shot on her. Brice eased up over the top of the ledge and put one in her lungs. She sat there and we thought that was it...Untill Andy tried to grab her by the ear. Mazee jumps on the does head at the same time and the doe flops her way back out into the tank...Skylar says "y'all don't move. I'm gonna go get my rod with a treble hook. His truck was about a half mile away at this time. So, what do a bunch of rednecks do when things look dire? We improvise! With some "encouragement" from us guys, Brice strips down to his boxers and shirt, and socks (for some reason he kept those on). He swims out into this tank, with Mazee on his back basically, grabs the doe by the hide, and then swims back to shore with her, like a life guard pulling someone out of the pool. the hole time Mazee's barking and growling and biting at this doe. Brice gets her to shore and then goes back in after his arrow. I've got the whole thing on video, it's just too large to post here.

Saturday afternoon I hunted a few hours in a pop-up in the front pasture. I was trying to get a doe this weekend. I saw 4 nice black bucks and then 14 billy goats. The goats pretty much camped out and hoovered up all the corn. Then the goats decided to lay down in the shade and take a nap. So I told Skylar that I was ready to be picked up.

Saturday evening I'm in a tall ladder stand in a tree. I first see a Black buck come in. He's nice, but I'm still not coming out of pocket for him. If I was going to be spending any extra money, it would be for an Axis buck and that's all. The BB is joined by two more for a little while, and then two little hogs come out. I'm thinking if I can get a shot at one, I'm not passing it up. They didn't stick around long, but the BB's came back in so I had something to look at. At this time I'm hearing some squeeeeeling going on way behind me. "Some one got a pig." Some time later I hear more squeeeeeling behind me and I'm thinking "2 hogs?" Finally the two little hogs came back out and I had had enough. Something had to go down for me. So I aimed at the bigger pig who was at 25 yards and let the arrow fly. Dead aim, through both lungs. He didn't even make a noise and went only about 30 yards. Come to find out, My buddy Brice had gotten the two hogs. So now we all had at least one bow kill for the weekend. Needless to say, Brice was tagged out and had a good evening.

Saturday night we all pitched in some of our kills and made fajitas. Black Buck, Addix, Sika, and hog. If I had any Idea Black Bucks tasted so good, my hunt would have been over Friday afternoon. So, Sunday morning, last hunt and I'm just hoping I get a chance to take a doe, be it an Axis, sika, black buck, or fallow, I didn't care. So, I'm in a shorter tree stand, and I'm not hunting a feeder or anything, just corn on the ground. I have two white tail bucks come within 7 yards of the tree I'm in, and head to the corn. After a little while the fog started to roll in. I could hear axis does behind me doing their barking back and forth. I was praying that they'd make there way towards me, but they never did. About 8 am, here comes two Sika does. YES! They are at 30 yards and all I need is a shot opp. One of the does is facing me and the other doe is broadside facing the first doe. I raise my bow up and the doe facing me raises her head and stares rite at me. "Dang, what do I do now?" I figured I might as well try to get to full draw and see if the blows at me or any thing. I get to full draw, and she doesn't freak out, but she's still staring at me. The broad side doe is now licking her back leg. So all I have is the front shoulder and guts to aim for. I put my 30 yard pin square on her shoulder and let the arrow fly. As soon as I could see the arrow in flight, I knew that I was going to miss wide left. Sure enough, the arrow sailed rite past her and skidded on the ground. BOOM, like a shot all the animals were gone. The sika and the White tail both blowing at me as they left. I'm just glad it was a clean miss. We had the best time you could ever hope for. Skylar and Emmit are just bad - A - kind of guys. I already have a weekend booked for me and my buddy to go back in September.

I'd love to post the video of Brice swimming out to get the doe. If anyone has some video savy, let me know. Rite now it's at 27.8MB, so I can't post it.
