Official Response from Lonesome Bull Ranch to Mr. Bowen's Review

We would like to respond to these comments, and this will be our only response to this thread, so that we may clarify the situation for our customers.

This hunt package was originally priced at $11,500 and included 5 management bucks, 5 sika does, 5 hogs, 5 turkeys (in season), and 5 javelinas, with lodging included. Mr. Bowen contacted our Ranch Manager and inquired about making a deal to reduce the price to $9000, which was the most his corporate office was willing to pay. A deal was made to drop the sika does, and that the bucks would be non-mountable cull bucks, that would be the ranch choice out of bucks that we did not want in our breeding pool at the ranch.

Originally, Mr. Bowen was going to bring 5 customers and 2 associates from GAF Shingle Mfg., and Mr. Bowen was also going to purchase a fallow buck hunt for himself. So we scheduled 3 guides for the 3 day hunt, where only 2 are included for this hunt package. They were told to arrive by 3:00 pm and ready to hunt, since the feeders go off at 4:00pm.

Mr. Bowen and his partner arrived at around 1:00pm on Jan. 8. and informed us that there would only be 2 customers coming in, so we offered them the opportunity to let their customers shoot a better deer at no cost , however, they seemed more interested in what they could shoot for themselves, rather than pleasing their customer.

The rest of their party arrived at 4:00pm, and there was only 1 customer, 2 friends of Mr. Bowen from GAF Shingles, plus Mr. Bowen and his business partner, for a total of 5 people that would be hunting. They were not in a rush to go hunting, and were more interested in drinking and partying. The guides took them out at around 4:30, but at this time of day, they just scared the animals away as they got into the blinds since the feeders had already gone off. So there went the first hunt with nothing accomplished.

The hunting party stayed up and drank most of the night and slept in, while the guides waited outside for them for the morning hunt. By the time they got up, the morning hunt was basically over with, but the guides took them out riding around and nothing was shot.

That afternoon hunt went pretty well, with their customer killing an 8 point management buck, but nothing else was shot. Our staff asked the hunters several times if they would like to hunt hogs or javelinas out by the lake, do some fishing in our stocked ponds, and were even offered the use of our shotguns for some turkey hunting, but they declined every time.

They hunting party was given a complimentary ride on our Monster Truck Hunting Vehicle, the Critter Gitter, which was not included in their hunt, and they seemed happy with everything at that time.

They partied again the second night, and invited the Ranch Manager and one of the guides to play cards and have a few drinks in the lodge. At this time, the hunting party informed them that they had to leave by noon the next day, leaving only the morning hunt to shoot the rest of the animals.

The next morning, they killed 2 more bucks and wounded another (which ended up being the best one in their hunt).

This was a Hunt, and not just a Shoot, but it seemed like Mr. Bowen and his buddies wanted the animals tied to a tree to shoot at. They put no effort into the hunts.

You pay for what you get in life, and serious, experienced hunters know that it takes getting up early, hunting late, limiting the partying, and some effort for a successful hunt and a chance to harvest a better animal.

Our staff loves hunting, and wants our customers to have a successful hunt, but that only works out when the hunter puts a little bit of effort into it.

We will not be publicly addressing this situation further, but if you have any questions about any our hunts, feel free to give us a call or visit our website:

DO NOT GO TO - Lonesome Bull Ranch

Why does the web page $9800 but the ranch come on here and says it is normally $11,500
Sounds like damage control more than anything

That's the first thing I noticed

The other thing I didnt "like" was that they tried to slip in little personal slides at him, like he was just concerned with shooting something himself. Even IF that was the case, it wasn't like he succeeded in that. But that really doesn't have anything to do with the situation, and doesn't seem professional.

The other thing that got me was he wanted the party there at 3 the first day cause feeders go off at 4. Seems a little late what about waivers and unpacking gear.
Then he seemed to complain that some got there at 1.
Every day lease I have been to let's me get there at noon the first day.

I actually considered booking a meat "hunt" there before and defended them on a HF breeder pen debate, won't do either now.

I shot a gold medal Addax at this ranch last summer......I was the only one on the ranch as it was mid week.....saw a ton of animals and killed a brute and the price was great.......it was all on the up and up.....

I have no opinion either way on what this post is going on and on about....but having been there an had a good experience I plan to go back and hammer a gold medal black buck and a few other animals this year......
