A group of 7 went to Montana Daves ranch near Mnt. Home. I have read and heard all the reports about MD and his ranch. I am going to give you my opinion of his ranch. I have been to alot of day lease hunts so I have a little knowledge on how they should go. I will start out with the cons and then move to the pros.
Cons.
1- The ranch is to small for more than 4 hunters. Im not sure of the size but i would guess around 200 acres.
2- MD needs to put a few more animals on the ranch. We saw about 20 axis most we does, about 15 black buck does and no bucks, and 3 small audade that were offlimits.
3- The house is old and needs some work on the outside. The inside is not bad it just needs to have a good cleaning.
Pros.
1- MD has one of the prettiest ranches I have ever hunted. It is a mixture of liveoaks, cedars and fields. It is a great layout to spot and stock.
2-I have hunted and stocked in Kansas and Missouri for almost 20 years and this ranch was a blast. I repeat it was alot of fun. I had 6 different stocks that got me with in 40 yard, 2 were less that 30. I had an axis doe at 26 yards. All she had to do was take one more step and she was toast, but another hunter was moving on the ridge to my left and spooked her. I had 2 shots at bb at around 50 yards but the wind was blowing so hard that my arrow missed its mark.
3-If you like a real challenge, a real hunt you will like this place. If you have to kill something every time you go to the woods don't bother.
All in all it comes down to one question would i go back? YES
If you are going on an elk hunt this place is cheap and will challenge you skills and give you great practise. Out of the 7 of us 5 would return.
For everyone that has been in the past your opinions and feeling have been heard. For me it was well worth $250.00 to have a real hunt.
