Cistern Hog hunting - Post Oak Hogs

Just go back from Sam Ahart's place in Cistern, just out side of Smithville about 15 miles off HWY95. Sam has a great place and prices are only $75 a day no limit on hogs and best of all he feeds his guest and these are great meals (out does my wife cooking). Sam has 50 acres that sets between 3 ranches, 200 + on each side and hwy95 on the front side. Sam feeds year round so the hogs funnel into his place. This weekend was my second time there. We did not get any hogs this time but there is a lot of sign all over the place. Acorn crop out there was huge, so not too many hogs coming into the feeder right now and yes the acorn are still green in lots of places sounded like popcorn when you walked around. There are 6 feeders with light and tree stands. Cabin is nice with bunk beds and AC. Camp house is nice with a bedroom where Sam stays while you are out there with a kitchen and bathroom. Sam has lots of movies to watch while you are not sitting by the fire or throwing washers during the noon hours.

I plan on going back in March or Apr when I hope all the acrons are rotten. BTW, his father inlaw found a large axis horn near one of the feeders - Sam said we could take him if we saw him....no luck this time.

you can reach Sam at postoakhogs@hotmail.com.

      bow only

Bow only. Sam has tree stands/tripods at each feeder. Most are between 15 and 18 yards from the feeders with lights. He even has a hog trap he will set if you want to catch some hogs, assuming you don't shoot one with your bow. I plan on going back in March. Great place, great food and great guy.

I will ask for some pics. He had some from a trail cam that showed like 30 hogs.
