Hog Hunt at the Mew Ranch

Let me start by saying that I took all the advice I found on the Green Screen into consideration before booking this trip. Everything I read said that the place didnt have any deer. As this was a hog hunting trip those reviews were taken into consideration, but not heavily enough it turns out.

The hunt was found on Craigslist by a friend. $200 per person for the weekend. That includes Friday at 12:00 until Sunday at 20:00. Ranch owner posted many pictures of pigs at the feeders and everything looked great. We had to bring corn for baiting and all of our own food and bunk supplies.

Let me say this. I liked the ranch owner. He was very nice and gave us the run of the place. I understand the fact that its called hunting for a reason. Everyone has bad trips. The problem is that there were not any pigs. Remember, this is a pig hunting trip. I felt that pigs should be included. Maybe thats just me.

One of the hunters thinks he saw a pig one night. It was dark and he wasnt real sure. There were very little of the typical signs of pigs. We monitored the only two water sources on the ranch and never saw a pig. All of the bait feed that was put out was never touched by pigs. If it was than it was a ninja pig that believed in quick in, quick out, and no tracks left behind. We did see deer though. Even a few decent bucks.

So long story short... Trust the Green Screen. If the reviews are bad there is probably a reason.

A quick question, I noticed you said none of the bait feed was touched, was the bait feed straight corn or did you use something else. I know from lots of experience that if you try to use something other than corn that most pigs that are not used to that particular bait will avoid it for a few days. Also did you hunt at night or just during daylight hours. Sorry you didn't have better luck.

Were there any hog tracks around the water sources?

He had been baiting with corn and we brought more corn to bait with. I believe it was even the same brand. I hunted from sundown till 02:00 the first night. I actually saw plenty of deer, but no pigs. My buddies hunted until around 04:00. Nada.

Tracks around the tank were probably some pig mixed with deer and cow. Nothing fresh. Nothing of note.

I just want to make sure people understand that I am not running down the land owner or his day lease operation. I just want to make sure my fellow TBHers to know that this place may be shot out on pigs.
