    Good for hogs?

Just took a look at the Matt family site. Looks like something I REALLY wanna do for hog hunting. ANy shortage of porkers there?

Nope no shortage what so ever. Give Rick Matt a call.

Guys, is this place high or hog fenced and does he restock hogs on a regular basis? Does he have sleeping and cooking facilities?

it is not high game fenced. There is no facilities for staying there like a lodge or anything like that. It is just a place you show up for a all day hunt and then leave but I am a hour away so its great for me.

I've been wanting to go out there and it is maybe 10 minutes from me (Barker Cypress and 290 is where I live). If anyone is going out there give me shout.

any updates or hunting reports lately? I'm getting back into the bowhunting game and it would be nice to head out there with someone who can show me the ropes.

I don't mean this to sound negative...but TBH'ers have been going to Matt's since I've been on here in 2003 and I don't think I've ever seen a hog killed there. Has anyone ever killed anything? This place is close to the house but all the reports say, "heard the hogs behind me", "they didn't come out until dark and I never got a shot", "didn't see anything but you could smell them". What's the deal? I know it's not supposed to be easy but has anyone connected out there? I apologize if I'm way off base and missed all the successful hunt reports. Thanks for any insight.

There is not a fee for non hunting guest.

The guy that went with me past up on a 7pt because he wanted something bigger. I know there is deer there we saw a bunch of them as we pulled up to the gates. And there is proof of hogs everywhere you go I did not have night sights and the light on my feeder did not work. One my fault the other well mechanical. If you search threads I am sure you will find someone who took it for all it had but that’s only like my uh first bow hunt I just got started into it.

also if you kill a doe and a hog well you only pay 100 just as the web age says. you will have to check with TPW for regs on does and all of that

                              Matt's Family Orchard

I have hunted there and didn't kill anything; not because there wasn't any game, because the knumbskull buddy of mine came and got me to help him track a stuck hog. In his defence it was starting to rain. Bad part, we never found the hog.... I know of one guy that shot a sow out at Matt's and she was big.

We helped Mr. Matt out and finished the electrical in his metal building and my brother, bowhica, ploted the color ariel photograph with the stand locations.

                              Its a cool place.

Have been 3 times and twice we have taken hogs... First time out 1 each. next time out 2 each - small ones but what the heck. Had several really large hogs come in - never got off a shot cause they would not give me their side - always head on. I shoot longbows so I can not penetrate their thick skulls. One hog I saw never got a shot I figure in 300+ range - he put the run on several large hogs. He came in and scattered them so fast then he was gone. It was fun! Last time we went it had rained for about 10 days straight and it was so flooded the hogs stayed on higher ground all the time.
