We came down and took a chance on getting a standby hunt and got the opportunity to hunt!!! It's for youth gun deer antlerless and spike. I'm with my son.

It's really warm this afternoon. We bumped a doe on the walk in to the stand. She was laying up under a tree out of the sun. Hopefully as the sun gets lower the deer will start to move.

This water hole/pond/tank is right on the edge of our view in the front. Hopefully the deer will get a drink and pop out in full view. We put out 50 pounds of corn in front of us as well.

Not any action as of yet. I heard one shot a few minutes ago but couldn't tell if it was on the WMA or next door (I'm in the unit bordering the private land next door).

My son and I did a management hunt there one year. Great guys and we stayed in the lodge. We wound up with 3 deer for the freezer. He got 2 and I shot 1. Very good memories from that hunt. Good luck to your a son.

The biologists here are definitely on point and seem like really good guys. I've been here a total of 4 times now counting this hunt. A management hunt with my kiddos (before my daughter turned 17 and they were successful), a youth javelina hunt with my son (didn't get one but saw a couple), a management buck hunt with my dad (I got one but he didn't) and now this hunt. Like you said I've got good memories here.

It's cooling off and the shadows are getting long! Hopefully the deer start cooperating.

Sorry about not updating last night things got hectic.

The doe came in yesterday evening and snuck right up behind us. Got to within 25 yards. She started snorting at us and took off. Only had a few minutes of light left so I thought that the hunt was basically over for the evening and that every deer around had left. Well the doe ran in a kinda half circle and stopped around 140 yards away. My son was able to get on her and drop her where she stood.

Just to clarify.....my son took off his hunters orange (requirements on WMA) for the picture and put it immediately back on.

We're back at it this morning. A spike is the only deer he's allowed to get now that he got a doe. Pigs and coyotes are on the menu as well.

At a different spot this morning. It cooled off (45 degrees) nice overnight so I'm hoping the deer are moving.

Coyotes just sounded off really close. I'm sure the deer didn't like that much. Wish we could get a shot on one of them.
