had a fun youth hunt but my son didn't get anything. just too stinkin hot this weekend. I didn't check but it felt like it was 90 degrees out there. Everything was extremely dry.

staff said the bucks were rutting hard w the peak of the rut coming up around Halloween but we didn't see any rutting activity. I think if y'all get a little rain and the temps drop 10-15 degrees like it is showing over the next few days the activity should blow up during the Rifle hunt this week. We sat in a blind in the mornings/evenings and bc we had a good sized compartment we moved around and did a bunch of setups rattling/calling during mid day and never had any deer respond to it. We hunted all day and never left our compartment for a day and a half. Ended up seeing a few young bucks and a few does/fawns during the day. Almost every deer we saw was coming to/from a water hole between 10:30am and 3:00pm. saw close to 25 pigs and got to watch a bobcat for about 10 minutes. My son did find a really nice matching pair of sheds from a 10 pt so that was cool.

Any other kids have any luck? We ended up going late in softball because the girls kept winning and ended up not being able to make the hunt...

I forgot to ask when we were leaving last night how many had shot something but there was nobody at the cleaning station at that point. The first night one nice 10 pt was brought in and they said someone was still looking for another deer. Not sure about yesterday morning.
