Brierwood Unit-Trinity River NWR

I got drawn for the Brierwood hunt this year! It's not too far from home but I've never been. Anyone else get drawn?

I drew it 2 and 3 years ago. Saw one deer and next to zero deer sign. More hogs than I’ve ever seen. The place is absolutely covered up in them. Still haven’t met anyone that’s shot a deer out there since it went to the draw system. I’ve hunted there and boars den a couple times. I’ll be back in boars den this year for the squirrel hunt. I’ve stopped wasting points on the deer hunts in there.

A buddy and I drew last year and we saw deer pre-dawn on most of our morning walks in, but only a handful of daytime sightings. It's a neat place with huge trees and a very open understory. I would try to find the thickest creek bottoms on the place and try your luck there.

Hogs were everywhere, as stated, and not particularly spooky. We shot several.

I got drawn for Brierwood as well. Never hunted it but every bit of research I've done has had mention of the crazy amount of hogs there like stated above.

Is anyone hunting Brierwood this year? I drew the rifle hunt November 5th. Looking for good camping area. Have a couple backup plans if this place is gameless. Trying to find the thread where I swear a guy said he saw a big buck there in 19, I think. Just to re-read it.
