    Nalgai hunts

    Hey all

Are there any WMA's or public lands open to hunt Nalgai's along the coastal area. I have heard other hunters say of some places being opened but could never get a story straight.

You have to get drawn but there are some on the Laguna Atiscosas. Im not sure that is the correct spelling or not. Its close to Brownsville. I hunted it 2 years back and shot a doe and a hog. I couldnt close the deal on a Nalgai but my buddy that was with me shot a young bull.

I hunted Laguna Atascosa 2 years back. They have 2 archery hunts one in October that is a full 8 days and one in January that is a full 4 days. Google Laguna Atascosa and get the number. They will email you all of the info you need to hunt. Bowhunting is first come first serve, and you can apply starting August 1st.

The last time I went was in Jan., I saw several nilgai but I could not get near close enough (they see well, and they are wild). Usually, everything is pretty stirred up by then due to the rifle hunters. I had a good time, but it was tough hunting. All of the hunts are walk-in, so It is in your best interest to take a bicycle set up to carry your bow, etc. No ATVs allowed.

However, the worst part about this place by far is the ticks. Make preparations to de-tick yourself after your hunt. We bought dog flea and tick soap the first year when we discovered how bad they were.

If you decide you want to go here. Shoot me an email and I will tell you where most of the Nilgai are supposed to be.

Large state parks will let you sign in and hunt. You just have to go to the info office.
