    Wyoming Antelope unit 21

    Hi,

I'll be taking my first hunting trip into Wyoming!.. Got an Antelope tag for unit 21 and a deer tag for same area.
Any of you familiar with the area?. I'm thinking on camping some where on BLM land, preferable in the east side. Are there normally gates/roads to drive into the land or just park on the side of the road and walk-in?.

My guess is there are probably some two-tracks that run through the BLM land off the county roads. I will be heading to unit 26 beginning of October to hunt the limited public land there.

I’ve hunted 24,25, and 26, but not 21. Lots of that BLM land is checkerboarded in Eastern Wyoming, so be aware of where you are. “Corner hopping” is illegal I’m thinking. I know the ranch we bowhunted three times in 26 was like that. If you have permission from the ranch you’re ok on the BLM, but not the reverse. The two tracks on that ranch were posted no traffic. WYTEX can tell you more about it than I can, but good luck.

hunted 21 few years ago. son killed his first buck there. as mentioned above, be aware of corner hopping, but i have a friend that has hunted it the last 2 seasons and killed nice bucks but he hoofed in back on the east about 4 miles north a few files in from I25. will be lot of road hunters. the road between 21 and 73 can get pretty bad with wet weather. dont overlook the little sliver of public land between the service road and I25, just sayin. the western side of the unit is more deer country from what i remember.

Corner hopping is not illegal, just make sure you cross right at the corner and do not go on the private land, for criminal trespass they have to establish you were on private for illegal actions, hunting.
Check out the county road maps and know that some roads will get county maint, even if they are private. Email the county road and bridge person for exact info on public roads.
If you will walk in off the roads you will find antelope.

Landowners may try to tell you corner hopping is illegal, it is not. Have a GPS with OnX, GW will take your side if questioned. Let them call the sheriff, they will not cite you either. You must have" intent" to trespass to be cited. It is the hunters responsibility to know where you are and you should have written permission to hunt on private, landowners sign your license on the back.

I'd take a GPS unit to show you the boundaries bc OnX on the phone didn't work well for me with reception and phone service. But if you do use OnX, you can download maps before you go so they dont have to try and upload with bad service while you are there.

Is it true all non-residents have to hire a guide now?

Be aware that On-X is not totally reliable as to property lines. It’s a good guide, nothing more. I know where the property lines are on my property but On-X does not.
