    New to Public Land Hunting

Any tips for a first timer? My brother and I were drawn for Lake Alan Henry WMA this year for a rifle hunt and I have never tried public land hunting before.

How does one game plan for a piece of property you have never seen before?

Google earth is your friend. If baiting us allowed bait like crazy. Most of the biologist at the wma's are helpful and know where the game is and has the stands set up where the game is. Good luck

Search the internet for information on the WMA. Find out if they assign units or blinds. If they assign blinds then your research is around where the best blinds are and if they assign units do some satellite scouting across the whole thing. You can also call the WMA and talk to the biologist, staff, or warden. Honestly though I haven't been on a tpwd hunt that wasn't run well and didn't provide a bunch of information when I got there. They're usually run by good people happy to help you and happy to see you succeed.

Thanks for the advice. I have gotten a couple of tips from the biologist since I posted this.

It looks like there are quite a few good plots but also some opportunity for a little spot and stalk as well.
