I'll be there this weekend. Going in via kayak.

I'm sure I'll hit up the Sam a few times this season but I will be at an undisclosed public location this weekend trying to stick a deer! Good luck out there y'all!

This will be my first year hunting public land. I drew for the Aransas NWR archery hunt this weekend, but I wasn't able to scout it out. I have deer sign around my spot in SHNF. I'm thinking I am just going to stay home and hunt Sam Houston instead of not knowing what I am traveling into.

Man I wouldn't turn down the chance hunt some new territory just because you weren't able to scout it. The Sam will be there when you get back

Agreed. If I draw one of those hunts I dont think I'll be able to scout, but I'd sure go for the adventure of seeing what's there and exploring and learning to hunt the area. National forest ain't going anywhere, but you do have limited access to the draw.

I'm still really on the fence about it. My spot in Sam looks really promising and it's making it a difficult decision. I have two more draw hunts in rifle season. Trinity River NWR and San Angelo SP.
