how to keep your granger lake feeder from being stolen!
In order to keep your feeder from being stolen out at "granger" you have to put your boat in either at willis, taylor, or friendship and start scouting out the areas that are hard to get to by foot! i had a 50 gal trash can feeder out on one of those points at the sore finger and a "lock on stand" and no one ever bothered it once! and i filled it regularly, i removed it when i got ready! most hunter's on the lake that access via boat and are bowhunters, duck hunters or fishermen and 99% of the time will not steal your stuff, does anyone agree? also that island in between taylor park and the primitive camp site i had corn there too! was never bothered, what i am saying is that most thieves don't have boats and generally i think that most of us bowhunters are responsible and respect one another or there property out at the lake so don't give the bad guys a chance to steal!!!!!!also there are alternatives to feeders that have worked for me at granger lake, try taking a sharpshooter and bury fifty pounds about 2 feet down in about a 10 inch diameter hole, dig about 10 holes and fill with corn and strawberry jello or koolaid! it will take them 2 or three days to find it and root it up depending on the dryness of the soil set up your stand in a tree 20yds away! you only need to be 6 to 10 feet off the ground, i killed 6 hogs last year at granger like this! didn't use a stand just stood on tree branches! just saying that the hogs will keep coming back to the buried corn until it is all rooted up and they will come 10 or 15 min before dark! 137 hogs killed by helo is less than 2% of the hogs that are there! have been hunting them out there since high school and i graduated from taylor in 1991, i can say that i have finally figured them out! you will see them when your walking and stalking but there noses and hearing are so good that your chances are slim to get a shot unless you hear them first and it's a large loud group! anyways just putting in my 2 cents all that know me will tell you that them koonce boys kill alot of animals at granger lake as well as the fish! i am stuck out here in Grand Junction, Co until i can retire from
the US NAVY in may 2013, makes my 20! going to kill a bull, bear, lion, and muley buck and then come back and chase the hogs at granger!

Additional granger pig info-you will need a boat with a motor to hunt like what i am talking about and also if you have a bigger boat, put in at taylor park run up the river and hunt the opposite side of the river from where the white bass fishermen are walking to, hogs get tired of being jumped from their beds and move to the opposite side of the fishing pressure up in the river! Wherever you find a thick briar patch on the circleville side of the river you will find hogs and prob piglets, jan-mar is when there dropping there second litter and i have seen this in repetition year after year, also the sow will not defend her piglets out there! She will run!!!!!!!!!!regardless of situation or she will swim!!!!!! She will live to be bred again, me and friends have had backpacks full of piglets through the years, they cost too much to fatten up i think, had four sows we caught and they got 200 pounds in a year, old veg, corn, stale cerial, dog food they will eat anything. But they were delish!!! Anyone on that hunts granger should call johnny cathey and see if he will give you a topo map of the hunt areas they are labeled a-i and it will give you a better idea of the area verses most of everyone on here talking box wherever your at! Just giving my 3 cents this time, hope yall get your hogs!!!!!none down here in colorado for me to shoot but there are things that will defend there babies here!!!!!!with fangs..............

I am torn between believing this guy is a troll and a hoax and believing that he is really that stupid. All this on a public forum, that can be traced back to him. What an idiot, really?
Austinhunter - just because you do not have your name posted under your profile, dont think that you are anonymous. It is very east to find your IP address, so just watch out what you say about what you are going to do, especially illegal activity. Again, dont come to Granger, or at least let us know what you drive, so we can avoid the hunting grounds at all costs.
Stay in Austin and keep it weird down there. We dont need you up here.
You guys should read all the new posts before responding... the next time I go out to Granger will be with a bow (just got to wait til payday).
And yes Hunting Coach, i plan on taking my shotgun out bird huntin next season... maybe to #2 if its a good spot. Shotguns are legal on the Granger WMA with shot smaller than #4. Check out the link for more info on Granger, or talk to Viper.
Anyone on here know if PSE bows are decent?

@ TXUSNAVYCHIEF - Very good info you psted up there pardshould help folks out...
@Genevieve - keep at 'em girl, lol...there is a wealth of Granger experience/knowledge within the ranks of this forum (much better than my limited knowledge)...that and since the helishoot I changed up my hunting for a while and won't be out there for a bit as I'm working on some scouting/hunting at Hynes Bay (Geese/Pigs) and Sam Houston National Forest (Pigs/pre season Turkey scouting) and will wait until it greens up/warms up and the pigs have settled some from the heli-shootin before I go back in to Granger with my recurve - guys? help this nice gal out will ya? Y'all are much wiser in Grangerology than moi...I'd be more like the person to traipse around with to learn what NOT to do
@Austinhunter30 - dude...you are a perplexing individual...it's beginning to appear as though you could be truly interested in learning to do things the right (and legal) way like an thical sportsman...progress noted, keep gon' in that direction for a bit and be consistent and we all might just buy it that you aren't some kook or worse, some sort of activist/provocateur/agitater...jury's still out as far as I'm concerned at the moment, but maybe...just maybe...you are a good dude (we'll see - time will tell).
@ All Y'allbeen reading a lot of good stuff from ya'll recently on her and it's very helpful stuff, especially the stuff from you Granger vets out there and I want y'all to know how much I appreciate your helpfulness...you guys are WAY cool
- lot's of good folks down here in Tejas Territory

So did we ever figure out if blaze orange is required or not?
The state now even allows those folks who want to feel like they are still gun hunting to use Crossbows in archery season. You will never know that we are laughing at you behind your back as you swager through th woods with your new CrossGun, bolts and high powered scope. We promise not to laugh at you to your face, that would be rude. You can go on hunting pigs any way you can. We will even help you tell pig tracks from boot tracks, so that you don't water time following us around. We will keep our laughter low so you will not be disturbed. Perhaps, if there was an aptitude test to get an archery license, there might be fewer Crossbowers in the woods.
GRANGER RANGERS; the main goal is to KAP, by any means. Bow, stick, knife, tomahawk, wrestling them to the earth and strangling them. GRANGER RANGERS; form up my brethern, and sister, and let us hit these Grangers boars hard and fast, with extreme prejudice, let us not stop until the squealing is done. Hopefully, we'll eat well and even Tote a couple back home.
Sharpen those broadheads and knives, clean that camo, prepare yourself for the onslaught that is to be GRXH 2011.Last edited by Wudstix; 02-16-2011, 10:22 PM.

Wearing hunter orange is not that much to ask.

I am new to the site but I was out hunting between section #6 and #7 out at Granger yesterday and I found someones release while walking a trail. If its yours and you can describe it ( brand, color, and general area lost) please let me know and we can set a time to meet so i can return it to you.
It was my first time to hunt section #6 saw plenty of signs but no pigs. I have been hunting below the spill way every weekend for the past month or so, before the helo came I saw a very large group of 75-100 large pigs a little after dark... about 65 yards away, couldnt get a good shot from my brush blind. I have to be honest it was a lil scary with only 5 arrows and a knife.

Does anyone think that TJE and Austinhunter might be the same person? Just wondering.
Thanks.
Anyway, austin hunter, just go away.
Good luck at the Ranger hunt. I was going to be able to come, but baseball tournaments are not going to let me be able to attend. Kill a pig and catch some fish.
