What does Texas Parks and WIldlife have to do with Federal permits? Does this mean we will all have to wait or can we go ahead and shoot a doe then tag it later. LOL j/k Oh well if I don't get it by tomorrow, I will use it Thanksgiving weekend.

I was notified of the Doe Permit Mailing Delay too. I'm still taking my bow and taking up a parking space Saturday. I think I'll wait until daylight and make sure I'm not going to be surrounded by a bunch of 'gun-totin' good ole boys.

It was slow going on the unit we were hunting. I saw two does. Didn't get my antlerless permit until I got home Saturday night.

I know a few years back that the ranger came by our camp and just handed us a couple of permits. That they had left.

                      1. How do I know they gave them out? Answer: They came by camp and handed them out to a friend of mine and 2 other hunters that just stopped by. I asked the biologist how many he had and he told me he had 50 left and was going to give them all out before he left unit 30.

                      2. They said you did not have to have your permit on you as they knew they were sent out late. You would have to use one of your tags off your license and they would check you off the list. If I knew that Saturday morning I would have had a doe in the freezer today.

So for I know that 2 bucks and 1 doe has been taken, two friends of mine took two small bucks and another a doe. I can't wait to get back out there and do a little field dressing myself. hahahaha!!!!

We are thinking that the deer are coming in rut, saw a few small bucks cutting up in the woods and chasing the doe, (unless they are acting like teenagers and just sowing a few oats). Haven't seen any big boys chasing the doe yet but it will be soon, seeing that they are scraping all over the place. Found 8 large scrapes in one area just a few hundred yards apart. Saw only one rub and this was at Cottonwood lake. Seeing a lot of doe but they are single ones, they haven't herded up as of yet.

You know after the permits were given out on Saturday, I heard a lot of shooting Sunday monring. I am assuming that if each gun shot I heard produced a doe, then there were 18 dead doe just right around me. If any one has any questions, email me and I will be more than glad to help out as much as I can.

so let me get this straight. if you were camped in a more populated area, and happened to be at camp, you would get a permit. if you were in a more remote area not camped, but hunting, then you don't. if you got another permit, congrats to you, and i wish you nothing but the best of luck. because i did not i am still kinda upset. not at the hunters mind you, but the system, and the forest rangers. seems like they woulda gone back to the list of ALL applicants and mailed them out from there, but thats them and not me!!!! congrats to all the hunters that harvest game out there. maybe i iwll soon.

Well, I finally have broken my 5 year dry spell. Last night, Sun. 11/5/06, at 5:18 pm I dropped a 3-5 year old, 5 point buck out at the grasslands. It was thundering and lightning on the horizon. I have the meat in the ice chest right now. I took him at 102 yards with my blackpowder. He has a huge head and body. No kidding, he probably field dressed at 165. He has 3 small points on one side, and an 9 inch long palmaded fork on the rights side. It has 2 distinct points, they just are not sharp.

While I was gutting him, I was getting poured on with the thunderstorms passing through. I will post picks a little later in the hunting reports.

I still have my doe permit too.

People that already had a permit did not get another one. People with out one got a permit. And yes if you were camped any where around Tadra or Cottonwood lake you would have gotten one and in camp. I don't think he wanted to go through the woods handing them out. lol j/k.

But hey, if you are up there Thanksgiving look me up I will be camping at Cottonwood lake in a camper that is camo'd with blue toyota truck t100.
