A couple of buddies and me are going to be bow hunting the Chaparral in January and was wondering if anyone knew anything that would help us out. Was wondering what pastures seem to be good and if anyone has been down there this year and saw any nice bucks. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well I will let you know how Lucky we are once we finish hunting it. If sure it isn't the easiest place to bowhunt. So you saw most of your deer towards South Jay (pasture 9) when you were in the Ano Nuevo (pasture 11)? Just trying to get any tips possible since I am sure it will take another 10 years before I get the chance to go back.

I've hunted javis there. We saw pretty good # of bucks....mostly 110-120 range.
My Dad watched a young mid 140s buck leisurely eat for a long time. We were in the North part of the WMA. It was up against the Dolph Briscoe (sp) Ranch. I don't recall the pasture's name we hunted but it was west of the Jay pastures.....if memory serves me correctly.

Where are the Javelinas at Chaparral??
I am taking my daughter down to Chaparral for the youth javelina hunt at the end of this month. I noticed that many of you have been javelina hunting down there in recent years. Which compartments/pastures where the best? Got any advice for us as far as set-up, etc. to find the Javelinas? Thanks!
...and good luck to the buckhunters down there!!

I took my son on the Youth Javelina hunt last Feb. We hunted in Ano Nuevo. The SW part of 11. My son had and missed a 40 yard shot 10 minutes after we were shown our area. He also missed again that evening at about 100 yards. All compartments will hold javelinas. As soon as you're dropped off (let loose). Spread corn in the senderos. Then, just either sit in a blind and wait, or we just walked in circles around the senderos. I bet we saw close to 30 pigs in one afternoon. They feed all day. Have fun.
