    San Angelo SP Turkey Hunting

    Hi,
Anyone ever bow hunted turkey San Angelo SP with drawn permit? Any information you have about the location would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mike

A game cart can be useful on that hunt because it's walk-in only. Carrying a bow, blind, and gear can get heavy if you want to get far from the parking areas.

Mike, we hunted it last year on the turkey draw hunt. Send me a PM and I will help you out.

Last time I was drawn there was 1995 so I imagine a few things have changed. It was nice place to hunt back then. Killed my best bird out there, 12 1/4" super thick beard with 1.5" spurs. Even won a shotgun with it in a contest. It was supposed to be a compartment hunt, but they said if we were all OK with it, we could all just go where we wanted. Worked out well. Ended up calling in 9 birds in 2 days with 3 killed and a 4th shot but lost. There is a nice bottomland area where they roost and more upland mesquite savannah where they feed. Saw a fair number of small rattlesnakes though.

My son and I drew the hunt about 15 years ago, so I don't have any current information to share, but we had a great time.

We took our mountain bikes and were able to cover a lot of ground on the roads, but learned a hard lesson about the need to slime tires in that area!

                  Good Luck on your hunt!
