    Hunter Orange During Archery Season

    is this new...

I haven't hunted the National Forests or Grasslands in a couple years, but I seem to remember this differently. Or was I just breaking the rules during archery season before?

I think years ago it used to read during any gun season. But hogs were permitted year around so it fell under that.

Yep. That's the only way you'll see me sporting it.

Well, this is the public hunting section, so that part is a given. We are talking about Public Hunting Lands.

Straight out of the Public Hunting Lands book:

                  page xi

                  Prohibited acts:

                  Hunter Orange

-fails to visibly wear at least 400 square inches of hunter orange material with orange headwear and at least 144 square inches appearing on both chest and back during daylight hours at times when hunting with firearms is permitted.

Notice to archery hunters and recreational users: You must wear hunter orange during daylight hours at any time when firearm hunting for any species is authorized on the unit. Many units allow firearm hunting year-round for rabbits, and firearm hunts for squirrel and dove often are conducted concurrently with archery deer hunts.

So....if your unit has an open firearm season (hogs, rabbits, squirrels, etc.), you must wear your orange while hunting.
