    Fairfield SP Hunt

Me and the family got drawn for a antlerless/spike hunt at the end of December for Fairfield SP. We have camped there a few times and fished it too.

Can anyone tell me how the hunts are done and give advice about which areas might be more productive? I know it is just a "doe hunt" and it is assigned by blind, just trying to get some info from someone who has hunted there.

My plan is to hunt in the morning and evening and fish for some reds in the afternoon!!!!

    Thanks!

    darkarcher,

I have been on that hunt before, around the same time (first week in december). I would advise assigned blinds 12, 23 or 24. I cannot remeber which one it is 23 or 24 but it is on a pipeline that is close to the check in shed near the entrance to the park. I killed 2 does in the same morning on that pipeline, and my brother killed 2 does on blind number 12 or 13. On his blind he left the check in station and turned left and the number was marked on the black top road. he had to cross a creek and went up a little hill looking down on the creek. He had deer on him the first night of the hunt and saw deer there every time he hunted that spot. Good luck if you have any more questions you can pm me and we can talk!

I was drawn for the first week of December. My hunt is from Wed.- Fri. and I was wondering if they let you hunt the first day or not. Do they do any kind of orientation? Hoping to hunt Wednesday evening, all day Thursday and Friday morning. Hopefully I won't need Friday morning.

yes, you will do orientation between 10 and 12, and draw numbers for your assigned blind . You will be able to hunt from wed. noon til Friday noon!

I hear those assigned blind hunts kinda suck because if you get out of the stand they stick you in they can kick you out of the hunt, I guess its for safety, but would rather do the compartment thing where the give you X # of acres and let you scout it out and set up your own stands.

These type of hunts are soley meat hunts and you dont need to move from there assigned blind as there are so many deer in that park that you can kill all you want if they would let you. I saw many deer every time I sat down in the blind!

Here's the hog I got Thursday Evening. Only saw one spike but the place has plenty of hogs.

Why did you not shoot the spike? Can't believe you only saw one deer that place is covered with them, you must have got the shaft on stand selection.
