I think so. I’ve got some other pics of some pretty good bucks. Bigger bucks this year than last year.

Hey Guys new to the forum been hunting Twin Buttes for about 4 years moved to Angelo a couple years ago and really started to grind out a deer season in some of the different areas. Some of Y'all have probably seen me I drive a Red Tacoma. had a question about the deer that Specalist370 shot. was that in area 9? I shot a deer in there the evening of nov 11th shot my 30 instead of my 20 pin on accident and hit him real high his *** hit the ground and he barely crawled out of there. there was blood everywhere big puddles then it dried up and went cold. i looked that night and then again the next morning for several hours with some friends of mine, but never found him. Anyway i'm like 99% sure that deer had a run in with me. just glad he survived and that he went to a hunter instead of rotting away somewhere.

Fisherman's Road doesn't really border it at all except for a very tiny corner in the NE panhandle part of Compartment (Area) 9. Spillway Road borders it on the west side and then Spring Creek Road on the north/northwest

                    Good morning TGW,

I’m quoting you this morning on behalf of the entire group of TBR/SASP hunters and many curious San Angelo area hunters and Non-hunters. Myself and the rest of this particular group are just dying to know more details regarding the “allegedly poached” double droptine buck. We understand it might still be under investigation, so if you can’t discuss the specifics we completely understand. But if by chance we could get some facts and answers to some of the wild rumors circulating the forums and local watering holes.

Did some guy actually poach the buck from the O.C. Fisher spillway area? Did he really take a picture with it and have it “accidentally” posted on Facebook? What’s his name? What’s he being charged with? How many charges is he actually receiving? Did he take it with a rifle? Which caliber? Did he take it with a bow? Compound or crossbow? Does he have a sound alibi? How long have y’all know about the buck existing back there? Have y’all really been staking the area, expecting someone to attempt it? How did he actually get caught? Are y’all having it mounted and hung at the office like the airport buck? What did it actually score? How old was the buck? Would you have Shot or pass?

These are just a few questions circulating the local watering holes, any facts and information we can gossip about would be greatly appreciated.

                      JD,

To protect the integrity of the investigation and to abide by our Department policy we cannot make any comments other than to say it is being investigated.

                      Respectfully,

                      Captain Jason Huebner

                        November 2017 Census Results

For those of that are interested in our census count that we conducted on November 27th, 2017 the results are below in an attachment.

Also, we will be meeting on December 7th to discuss/develop the wildfire management plan that will pave the way for prescribed burns to improve the habitat.

Additionally, in areas 5 and 8 we are seeking approval to go in with an excavator to selectively grub the trees that we want removed, and rake the grubbed trees into piles, and leave the other hardwoods where we can. If there are any sensitive areas that need to be avoided with mechanical treatments, we could possibly go in with a helicopter and chemically treat some areas, depending on the species that we are trying to control. In the juniper areas, there may be some other options with some chemical tablets that are put out either by hand or aerially, and then remove the standing structure a year or two later with strategic prescribed fire projects. The approval process takes time due to the fact that this is a soil disturbing process on federal lands.

In regards to the Transportation Management Plan (TMP) we will likely be meeting in February with a Focus Group with plans to hold a public meeting that will seek general public comment as the process moves forward later in the year. Ultimately, we are trying to come in compliance with federal rules that apply to roads/trails on all federal lands. We are moving forward in this process inch by inch.

Lastly, we are acutely aware that there are still cattle/sheep on the reservoir even though all grazing leases ended nearly a year ago. This is a complicated process due to certain livestock watering rights a landowner retained when reservoir was created. We are looking at several options, but I don't see a quick resolution. In the meantime, we are going to erect some fencing around the dove fields that were planted to protect them from livestock grazing as we do plan to replant those fields as long as they are approved.

                        That's it for now....

Hi all new to this thread. I’ve never hunted twin buttes but plan to try my luck in the next week or two during the weekdays. I just wanted to ask for any advice or tips I’m just looking to fill a freezer and get my daughter and son their first deer. I wanted to ask here first to keep from stumbling onto anyone’s area they have been watching and don’t want to disrupt anyone else’s hunt they have been working on. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There's a lot of land and more shotguners than bow hunters. Not everyone is on this thread so it will be hard. Do some scouting first and make sure no one is "set up" around. Good luck!

I'm halfway considering making a trip out there. Are you guys hunting out of pop ups, tree stands, brush blinds, or doing something else? If using pop ups are you brushing them in? I'd only be able to stay a couple days.
