    "Texas" Newbie Public Hunting

    Gents

Im just wanting to make sure i have all my ducks in a row for public hunting here in Texas. Ive spent the last 20 years hunting Southeast Missouri and im just needing to double check that im legal. So here is what i have.

    Missouri Heritage Card- Check
    Texas Hunters Card- Check
    Texas license (Pro Combo)- Check
    Annual Hunting Permit- Check

Is there anything else i may need?

I plan on hunting SHNF and DCNF. Do i need any other permits to hunt these areas?

    Thanks

You need your hunting license, the Annual Public Hunting permit, and depending on your age, the hunter safety course. Stop by(or call) your local Texas Parks and Wildlife dept

Sounds like you may have it all.

National Forest and Grasslands in Texas website

Each Ranger District has different rules and regulations. I'd suggest calling the DCNF and SHNF District offices for the current prohibitions.

Should if only a gun season is on during the time you're there.

Most counties have squirrel season and bow season during October and we all know that one trigger happy **** that doesn't pay very close attention to his target and whats beyond it. Wear your orange on public land.

Yes, but dont forget about squirrel and rabbit that is typically on at same time as archery deer.

Also, make sure the archery endorsement is on the license (should be on there for a super combo, but i always triple check)

Yes that is what I meant. Any gun season at all. Every wma has different rules and requirements. I'd check the places that I plan on hunting specifically.

Orange required in SHNF. Hunting for pigs with firearms is allowed year round.

Hogs are year rounds. So year round you need orange, at least in the SHNF.

Edit: should have read the message before mine... ooops.
