    Laguna Atascosa 2015-2016

Just saw on LANWR Facebook page that they are looking for comments on expanding hunts to their Bahia Grande Unit, La Selva Verde unit and Subunit 7. They are talking several hundred permits split up for gun and archery hunts. Let's push for them to open up more of this land. Give them a call.

Wish I could have found a non-facebook link. Seven would be cool. There have been rumors about that unit opening up for several years. If Bahia Grande is where I think it is, I think it would be more suited for hunting with a rifle.

Definitely rifle hunting there, would make for some really tough bow hunting. Aren't too many deer out there but a lot of nilgai

Yeah I think its between Hwy 48 and Hwy 100. I know on the east side I think it wraps around south side Laguna Hights and harder to define the west boundary.

It just occurred to me that Selva verde may be the stretch of land that runs along FM 510 (I think) and North of Hwy 100 just outside of Bayview. I know that stretch of land has been Refuge land longer than Bahia Grande. That brush is mega thick along 510. As a matter of fact a few years ago someone was lost in that brush and they had to use a helicopter to find them.

Sorry, for going on and on but thats where I grew up and find myself missing home. Wish I could get on Google earth so I could attach a layout of where I'm talking about. Locals will know where I am talking about.....I think.

I think they were talking about Palo Alto battel field. That cannon is at thr corner of what we call Paredes Line and FM 511. That land around there is posted as refuge land. Have seen chingos of Nilgai in that area.

Again I wish I could get on Google earth but living on a vessel for the next few days.

I can't find anything specifically saying Selva Verde Tract put there's a chunk of land North of 510 and East of Ted hunt that I'm guessing could be it, if it is, I know there are quite a few animals in there. We had more than enough close encounters responding to the Detention Center out there from LF.

Also, according to some news I read, they are only considering opening Unit 7 for pigs and nilgai at this time.

                      BigRed,

You from LF? That is my home town lived there till I moved to Katy almost 2 years ago.

The piece of land that you are talking about is the one I was thinking about.

if that is selva verde, I bet there are some huge bucks in that thick brush. There is also some refuge land off of boca chica blvd towards the gulf. Not sure what tract it is but i always see deer there when going to fish. I wonder if this will be opened.

Yeah I was born at Dolly in Sam Benito. My parents house is on the east side of town. I bought my first home of of FM 803 between 100 and 511 in Saint Frances of Assisi subdivision. I grew up fishing the resacas around LF and dove hunting all over the area. Miss my little town.
