    WARNING-Hill Country SNA public hunt

found out some bad news today and wanted to pass it along to those affected before they send in money.

this affects GDA hunt Jan 12-15

last year my group went out for a hog hunt. out of 25-30 hunters no one even saw anything to shoot at. we found out on the last day that the day before our hunt there was 1500 runners running thru the park day and night for a 24 hr run. Tejas Trails.

well we got a permit this year so i called to check and sure enough same as last year. hunt starts on monday, sat and sun prior, 1500 runners all over the park on a 24 hr day and night run.

sent an email to the sna director and the regional director about their poor planning screwing the hopeful hunters headed out hoping for a great hunt.

i doubt i'll send in my money now

keep this up and spread the word to those with permits to check before they pay.

The runners don't help but I've also been on a couple draw hunts in the hill country and most of the hunters never saw a deer.
I paid $1750 for a mld lease and never saw deer. You never know what you will see.

I'm happy we did NOT get picked for that hunt now.
I'll have to remember that next year and call to see if they have the runners before putting in for it next year.

Nothing against the runners or tpw hunts themselves. Hunted many times. Just not happy about how this director plans for his. Poor timing and from now on I always check for prior activity before I pay

Wow. Now I hope I don't get selected on the second draw for that hunt. I agree that it shows poor planning and ignorance of game habits. With that many people running through the park of course the animals would be a bit freaked!

That is one public hunt that I won't go back on. Brother in Law and I did a hog hunt one year because it included hogs and exotics. Not one single animal was checked in on that hunt. BIL hiked way back on the hill and found a bunch of goats. He only shot them with his camera because he didn't want to drag one back to the road and didn't consider any in the group worth shooting.

That is why I don't put in on public hunts except to WMA area's. Their priority is hunting the State Parks and SNA not so much.

I hate to call it out, but that is not POOR TIMING. It appears they want your money, and clearly know disturbing the game prior to a hunt will not yield success. What a shame.

I am in no way defending the sna for their poor planning but consideration should be given to the fact that there are hikers, joggers, and horse back riders almost everyday there when hunts arent being conducted so I'm sure the deer are somewhat use to them. We had a very successful hunt there last year and saw plenty of other deer checked in.
