    Lance Rossier Unit Big Thicket

Hunting Sat. Oct 4 off the Cemetery Rd. Temp 55, with slight North breeze. At 9:30am I see movement to my left at 25 yards.
Sitting on stool on the ground, basically all I see is legs. As it gets closer, about 15 yards I see that it is a small 6 point with his nose to the ground and he is trailing something like a dog. He turned away from me before he enters any type of lane to shoot and proceeds in a SE direction from me. Nothing else but one squirrel all morning.
Wondering if does are coming into heat? Looked like it by the way he was acting.
Scouted out a couple of other places that I have hunted, they are a little more open, thinking about trying one of them next weekend.
Anyone else hunting Big Thicket? and did you see anything?

I had planned on hunting it this year and hopefully still will but havent scouted at all due to finding a lease late. Been spending free time there doing work.

I hunted it this past Monday after the front blew through. I spent more time scouting then hunting but found acorns dropping everywhere and no animal sightings. I see on the harvest reports they killed over a hundred hogs last year but I couldn't find much hog sign at all. I did we some recent scraps and rubs though back in the Palmetto thickets so I know the deer were close.

Hunted again this last Saturday morning (10/11). Same general area. Only seen one squirrel and two squirrel hunters (Father and son) they passed by me at 5 yards. Don't know if they seen me, I kept quiet and let them pass. Hoping that they would push something.

I'm hoping you guys harvest something big outta here ! I grew up between Kountze and Sour Lake on 326 and always hunted the LRU. After I joined the Army, didn't have much time to hunt anything other than trashy terrorists, but now that I'm out, I'm hoping to get back into the LRU and hunt near Coe Road.

Seen a couple does early season that was about it. They cut and burnt some neighboring property to where I had hunted. I thought that would pick up activity on the property line but never seen a thing
