    Belton Lake Dove

    Hey guys,

I will be headed to Belton Lake in a few weeks and was thinking about hitting some dove on some of the public land. Anyone here hunt at lake Belton?

    Thanks

My dad says he hears the guns going off while he is in the back yard in the morning, so someone must be out there. Looking on the map, I see a couple water sources that could be useful. But, first hand info would be useful though

I'm not sure about the lake itself, but there is some public land off of sh317 that I've tried before. It's near cedar creek on the NE part of the lake. Usually lots of birds flying in the area, I've had great days with lots of shooting, and terrible days, but mostly slightly above average. It's unkept, so the birds are sometimes hard to find in tall grass, but it can be lots of fun. There are large crop fields to the north and east of it.
Google Cedar Creek WMA and you'll find it. When you planning on coming this way? Hit me up, if I'm available, I'll come see about smacking a few birds with you.

Many years ago (about 20-23 or so) I hunted the far North end of the lake on COE property. Iron Bridge park or something like that. Anyway, it was decent for dove. I actually went back there and shot some ducks off one of the sloughs next to the river that held water that year. I can't imagine it has water this year, but that year it was pretty good duck hunting.

But that was a while ago, and I'm sure the area gets a lot more pressure now.
