Public Hunting Lands List

I've never seen a complete list of all the public lands open for hunting in TX. Figured it would make a good thread topic if we each listed one with a little summary of the conditions. Make our own list.

Aransas National Wildlife Refuge. Located mid coastal area with 33k acres open to bow hunting for 9 days. Cost is $65 for an on line permit, 400 permits available not a drawing.

Lower Rio Grande Valley National Wildlife Refuge, just West of Raymondville Texas

Refuge Big Game Hunt Information:

Archery Big Game Hunt - $80.00
General: Four consecutive days
Dates: Oct. 30-Nov. 2, Nov. 6-9, Nov. 27 - 30, Dec. 4-7, Dec 11-14, Jan 1-4
Bag Limit: Two White-tailed deer (one male deer and one female or two females), no limit on nilgai antelope and feral hogs.
Legal Weapons: Longbows, compound bows or recurved bows. Only a person with a permanent upper-limb disability will be issued a Special Use Permit from LRGV NWR to use a crossbow.

Shotgun or Muzzleloader Big Game Hunt – $80.00
General: Three consecutive days
Dates: Nov. 14-16, Nov. 21-23, Dec. 5-7, Dec 26-28, Jan. 9-11
Bag Limit: Two White-tailed deer (one male deer and one female or two females), no limit on nilgai antelope and feral hogs.
Legal Weapons: Shotgun (20 gauge or larger with slug shot only) or muzzleloader (.40 caliber or larger).

Exotic-Only Hunt - $80.00
General: Two consecutive days
Dates: Jan. 17-18, Jan.24-25 and Jan. 31-Feb. 1
Bag Limit: No limit on nilgai antelope and feral hogs only.
Legal Weapons: Any legal center-fire firearm except hand held pistols (hand guns).
