Hagerman Hunters,
Attached is a list of preference points the Refuge currently has on file for the 2015 archery deer hunt draw (assuming you apply). It includes a point for 2014 if you were not drawn. If you believe your number is incorrect and have documentation to back your belief, please contact the Refuge at 903-786-2826 and they will review their records to try and find the discrepancy. It is important to remember that you must apply every year to keep your preference points. If you skipped a year applying, you started back at 0 preference points. If you were drawn for a hunt, you had 0 preference points for the following year.
The preference points system was started in 2010. Preference points were used in a different way for 2014 than in previous years where you simply had your "name in the hat" extra times. Those who applied in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013, but were not drawn any of those years had 4 points for the 2014 draw. All hunters with either 4 or 3 points were drawn for 2014 hunts. 75% of permits went to those with the highest number of preference points (i.e., those who had not been drawn to hunt here in a few years). The remaining 25% went to ALL remaining applicants equally whether they had 2,1, or 0 points. Some in the 25% group had hunted recently, others had not. Also, 24 hunters had automatic draws earned by taking either a qualifying doe or two hogs in 2013. When you receive an automatic draw, you still must "apply" but are automatically placed in the same segment you hunted the year you received your automatic draw permit.
This list also serves as the complete list of applicants for the 2014 hunt. Applicants who applied, but did not complete the full requirements of the bow hunter safety course prior to the application deadline are not on the list as they were not eligible.
