Trying to take an employee that just bought a bow (DFW area). Public land will be our best bet since we have a tight budget. Curious if anyone has had any luck on Ray Roberts, LBJ Grasslands, Bardwell or something similar? Thanks in Advance.

Hogs on Public Land

Thanks for the info. I now have got my sights on getting out there. A couple of etiquette questions though.
1. Can i just show up and start walking? or would that upset people i run into?
2. Does everyone spot and stalk on public land for hogs or do they set up blinds?
3. Any other pointers for hogs on public land?
TIA

If youre out a lavon,
1. Stop by the corps office to pickup a permit, its at the dam off 78. Make sure you wear your hunter orange, too many idiots to risk it.
2. I personally pack in and out with my stand out there, but I do spot and stalk if I hear them and theyre not coming my way
3. Put in your time, nothing makes for a good public land hunt other than boots on the ground and LOTS of scouting.
So much land out there to cover, this time of year, I would suggest to get as far back from the road as you can, plenty of hogs for the taking out there.

My advice for public land hog hunting? Don't worry. Just do it. It's not deer season. Most hunters spot and stalk, and it wouldn't hurt my feelings at all if you walked up on me in an area I liked to hunt. I like meeting folks out there...compare notes, exchange numbers for future use and go on your separate ways.
Also...don't pass up areas close to roads and parking areas. Hogs are looking for food. Food could be anywhere. It all depends on where you are, but don't overlook any and all areas. I've bumped hogs in areas I least expected to see them. I'm not a hog, so I've stopped trying to think like em.

Let me know how it goes at Lavon. I have not gone out there yet and have been thinking about it. I've seen where people have been going on Ray Hubbard down the river between Ray Hubbard and Lavon but haven't seen anyone coming back with hogs so I have no clue if it is allowed or not but there are plenty of tracks.
