Aransas Wildlife Refuge Archery Hunt 2013

has anyone bow hunted Aransas Wildlife? or have any info on how to get permit. I am new to hunting public lands and trying to figure it all out, seems like there are so many different regulations and fees.

Your best bet is to grab your trusty-dusty field guide from TPWD and see if it is open for hunting... then contact the WMA biologist/administrator. They'll give you more info about that plot than anyone else ever could. You should be able to get their number from the TPWD website.

What are you going down there to look for? I'm headed that way in a few weeks for some vacation, and might take my bow with me just for ****s and giggles... Maybe I can bag a small pig for the camp fire...

I am looking for a place neer Houston to go deer hunting in the fall Saw a utube vid of a guy who got a buck doe and hog there in2011. Like I said I am new to public land hunting. All experience is in terlingua on my land. Do you need to tree stand hunt or from a blind, or is spot and staulk ok?

Aransas is a fun hunt. Lots of hogs and deer, but it isn't easy. Thick brush. Short tripods or pop up ground blinds are your best bet. Be sure to carry a couple of Thermocells, cause mosquitos are HORRIBLE. Google their website for information regarding their hunts. Good luck!

Sam Houston National Forest is only an hour drive. start scouting early and you will have good chances to shoot deer, you can also hunt for pigs year round.

The Aransas Hunt for Archery is 65.00 they sell 400 permits. Normally no more than 175 permits are sold. There is also a IBEP class held at the refuge every year this class or already holding your permit gets you some extra scout time. I will be getting with the refuge in a couple of weeks to set up the dates for the class. I also will put out the information on the refuge hunt for this year as they make it available. I normally get information from them as they send it out for approval. I will keep yall informed with the info as I get it. Its a IBEP class. Bowhunter safety course its two days long. But alot of info about hunting the refuge is talked about during the class. We cover safety, blood trailing, and yardage estimation. I will keep everyone posted as I get info.

There is a lot of great info covered at the bow hunters Ed class. A lot of the guys that hunt it every year will be there to share tips and tricks they have learned the hard way. As stated before lots of deer and pigs but it is not an easy hunt. Plenty of bugs snakes and gators also.
