I’m about tired of walking down there too. I have a 4-wheeler that I could use but don’t have the permit that they require out there. I need to sign up for the class sometime…

i dont need a permit i have a mule and its not considered an atv but a utv. all i need is that ohv decal which i bought already. so im good to go. i called around also to verify that i did not need the class and everyone i talked to said since i have a utv it is not an atv so i am not required to take a class. sure would be funny to see me taking a safety course with everyone on a four wheeler and me in my "golf cart" . but if you are going down there in may ill be glad to give you a ride to your spot and save you the walk.

rick get a mule its cheaper than a 4 wheeler and sits 2 plus has a bed in back. you dont need a safety course if you get a mule which will get you on public land without taking a stupid safety course thats offered once every 4 months and nowhere local. i lucked out i guess. ill be there first week of the may hog season campin out with a friend. stop on by and like i said if you need "shuttle service" id be happy to help you.

Thanks Grenade...I am thinking that a mule is way out of my price range along with a trailer, we are kind of scamming along barely going to afford a 4 wheeler but I got a pretty nice one lined out....Good luck on your hunt...I would enjoy going myself but I am chained up at work for the next couple of months...Hope to meet you out there next deer season and we'll have a TBH campout back by the river...Rick

Thanks man, I appreciate the offer and will keep it in mind. I usually try to stay away from the bottom in the summer do to the killer mosquitoes but have been thinking about hunting/scouting on the four-wheel side past the power lines.

Yall might want to check with someone who's been out there recently, the whole place may be underwater. The river was way out of its banks at Grand Saline last sunday.

The water level was at the edge of the roads the 3rd week of March, I drove in less then a 1/8 mile with my 4 wheeler. I tried all trails trying to get to the power lines, I stopped when the water got to 3ft deep, it was no use. The water was running through the woods like it was a river. One of the park rangers told me the hogs were holding in highland left of the road that divides the atv use area. The park ranger also said that all the water was coming from upland and would continue flooding as long as it rained north of the Sabine River Bottom. I suspect with recent rains the area has continued to flood, it might go down some but suspect many areas will hold water. Good Luck.
