Fannin Cty. Ladonia unit Spring Turkey

My son has been working on me for the past couple of weeks about turkey hunting this spring. No experience with turkey hunting and well, never had the patience for this type of thing. Can't pass up an opportunity to get out with the boys, so what can anyone tell me about the scene at the Ladonia unit? I haven't seen any up there personally, but have heard good things, and is the only public area in our neck of the woods that I have seen allowing it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

My lease is in Ladonia and I didn't think you could hunt turkey anywhere around there. I will def. have to check that out. I haven't seen a turkey out that way in a few years. They were going to release some last year but I never saw any.

I have hunted deer and hogs there, but haven't seen any turkeys while out. It is the only public area listed that permits Turkey hunting in that distance from us. I think it will be a fun, uneventful day or two spent in the outdoors making a bunch of racket with inexperienced callers, but it does sound like a good time!

How is the hog hunting out there? We don't have any on our lease. We were thinking about looking around out there next weekend if we make it out. I will let you know if we see any turkey while were there.

I haven't been out since archery deer this past season. Didn't see any live hogs, but did see some light signs in the tanks. Overall though, this past season was dead compared to others. Hopefully spring and the recent rains will improve it some.

Been a few years, but spoke to the warden about turkey in the Caddo grasslands. He said they're out there. He suggested getting near river bottoms. I've never heard nor seen any sign of turkey out there...although, I've only ever been out there once or twice during spring when they tend to be more vocal.
