If you didn't see them on the hunt I saw about 40 all together crossing below the dam today.

is it on richland creek below the dam? or is there public land on the actual lake?

Yes below the dam. On a draw hunt once hunters there once told me there was type II public land on the lake but I've never found it.

The land directly behind the dam belongs to Tarrant County Water District and in considered an "Forbidden Zone" with no hunting allowed. On any given day you can see any where from several dozen to upwards of 100. Does, bucks, hogs. If you have good binocs or spotting scope, its not unusual in the fall to see some giant bucks chasing the does as they graze the big open area you are referring to. The only public hunting allowed near the lake is a little further down 488 at The Richland Creek WMA. But is is draw hunt only for deer. The old Richland Creek that they dammed up to create the lake seperates the 2 hunting and non- hunting areas.

what i thought. just makin sure. i fish around the smaller island way up the chambers side and its loaded with deer, see em swimming out to it all the time. it has trees painted purple all around it which im guessing means no tresspassing, but there are cows on it and some guys used to go out to it once a year and butcher a calf, not sure what kind of deal they had made but that would be a nice place to bowhunt
