APH Permit question about On-Site Registration

    Ok...

I'm looking at hunting a few different places that say "OSR Required Sept. 1-9" but they are places that don't even open until after that. Does that mean you have to show up and register on those dates, even if you want to hunt a 2-3 months later?? It seems strange since the OSR is what keeps track of who is on the land and when they exit... I don't understand, someone help! If you miss the OSR and want to hunt a month down the road, are you screwed?

Onlybregister on days!1-9 if hunting then. You do not need to register if first dat to hunt is day 10.

It's so weird.. Why would it say OSR Sept. 1-9 then the season for Hogs is only Feb 1-28? There are no other season listed at all. I mean, you can't even hunt in September so why does it say that?

Usuallybyou only register in dove season. I hunt a lot of aphasia land and only have been asked about registration during that time. You can always call TPWD but it does not make sense to have it if only hunts are allowed in Feb.)

Ya, I guess I'll just call them monday.. Just don't want to go out there in Feb and have them say "sorry, you needed to have registered in Sept"

Usually, when that happens, it's just a carry-over from another unit that is open on those dates, and they forget to delete it on the next unit description (there are a LOT of units for them to keep up with) or it only applies to certain hunts that are open on those dates. I suspect with OSR on Sept. 1-9, that's a unit that is open to dove hunting, where OSR is required for those first 9 days, then after that, no registration is required, you just have to have your permit with you. But sometimes they just cut and paste and don't catch it. I suspect that's what it is.

Which Unit # are you referring to?

Looks to be a typo since that Unit does not have a dove season or any species legal to hunt from Sept. 1-9

Actually, in that link it appears they may have left off the dove hunting information. I may be wrong. Or it might be a lease from the previous year that the owner has changed his/her level of participation and TPWD failed to completely revise the map booklet .

If you go to the aerial map of that unit, you will see the boundaries for a dove lease designated in orange

OSR is required to step foot on the WMA from Sept. 1-9 for any reason. Whether its scouting , birdwatching or anything else.

If a unit is 100% OSR, it will simply state "OSR Required" and no dates given.

Some are OSR required on certain hunt dates (opening week for example).

If no OSR is required, it will not be printed at all on the unit information.

The dove WMA is a different book than the "regular" WMA book.

(FTR, I refer to the booklets rather than the website for info. Old habit).

The dove and small game leases is no longer in its own book. They combined them into one map booklet a couple years ago.
