NWR budget cuts?

Wonder if this will have any effects on any hunts in the future. Possibly even in other refuges like Laguna or LRGV.
Curious to hear yalls opinion on it.

I don't have all of the details, but Hagerman NWR lost 2 employees to the recent retirement offer. Once I get more information I'll post it up.

From the Hagerman volunteer group newsletter- "There is uncertainty about the future of public access and use of the refuge due to potential budget and staff cuts. Cuts will also impact the staff’s ability to properly manage and restore habitat for birds and wildlife.
The refuge lost 2 of 7 staff members in early March when they chose to accept the deferred resignation offer that allows them to stop work now then retire at the end of 2025.
With budget and/or staffing cuts, possible impacts include reducing the number of open days/hours or possibly even closing the visitor center; closing outdoor restroom facilities due to the inability to maintain them; hiking trails might not be suitably maintained or mowed; roads might not be maintained; the number of public programs may need to be reduced."

I guarantee there's so much waste they could handle all the cuts without any negative impact on public use, but a lot of the lifelong bureaucrats that run, or work for, these agencies want to make these cuts hurt as much as possible.

YEP, lost 2 employees and may have to close down everything which sounds like they must have lost the wrong 2 and kept the wrong 5.....I go through Hagerman fairly often just piddling around and haven't really seen anybody working other than once drilling wheat in......not sure why bathrooms would need to be closed doesn't take long to clean one. I think "Friends of Hagerman" does a good amount of the stuff there too. Typical "the sky is falling" scenario, I bet if they told them they would spread to pay of those 2 amongst the 5 all would be fine.....I've been through lean years in FD and the fires still got put out and the patients got to the hospitals.......we just had to suck it up and take up the slack.
