    Mad Island WMA hog hunt

Just finished Mad Island hog hunt. Don't know what happened with the hogs here. Out of 25 hunters, one hog shot. Last time I hunted this place four years ago you had to wait in a long line to use the six skinning racks. Corn stays on the ground for the last two days, only birds & racoons eating it. Just don't get it!

Hey there. I'm on this same hunt. Going to give it one last try in the morning. Only difference I'm seeing compared to what you stated is that my corn was gone overnight and there was tons of hog sign. Tracks, scat, etc.

What blind were you hunting? I'm in P.

I'm the guy driving the Blue lifted silverado.

Only 6 or 7 hunters remained this morning. When I checked out there was only 1 or 2 still hunting.

Still only the 1 hog so far.

        ABYSMAL!

Wow, that's surprising. You might ask if they've been taking measures to control them, helicopters, dogs, etc.

We saw helicopter hunting [not on wma] last year while duck hunting close to there.

Back home now. Didn't think to ask that.

I will say I saw lots of sign and did see 3 hogs at my spot when I drove in yesterday morning. Way before legal shooting light. It seemed like they're super nocturnal.

Hunt them enough and they get smart and pattern us.

I was on a 10,000 acre lease on the coast for 18 years. We would hammer the hogs hard all hunting season. land they would go nocturnal. By March pressure was off, any hunt of corn and they would show up.

I understand hunting is hunting. Don't offer the hunt if your shooting them all year long. After all the expense...hotel, permit, and time. I felt like I was on one of those days hunts with everything shot up. This was very disappointing hunt.

Don't put in for the hunt if it’s not worth the cost. Maybe people should research a hunt BEFORE putting in for it. People want more opportunities. People want higher quality. You can’t maximize both.

Historical data shows typically between 25%-50% success rates on this hunt in the past few years. The first hunt period saw a 4% success rate this season. That's abysmal and waaaaay below average. It's already not great numbers.
