Was going to make a separate post.. but here goes..

Our only action was in the last hour of each day. Until then it was mostly torturous heat and nothing much moving. After seeing some 15 nilgai on Thursday scouting! And rutting action too… my son got some video of a bull chasing a cow and the two of them passing at 50 yards with him grunting all the way.. anticipation was high Friday but the rut was apparently done the day before..

Fortunately my son had a buck come in late Friday, lots of character, but rather "coastal" in stature... we were happy to get him after a long quiet day. He had passed a couple smaller bucks for which I was proud of him to take that risk.

          The airbnb was oddly inspirational

            .

Late Saturday a bull came right into our setup after sparring with another bull in the brush. 30 yards. This was a very exciting encounter after a long, boring day. 150gr accubond in 270 blew out the left shoulder and blood trail was only about 50 yards. I have not yet recovered the bullet, which makes me think it is still buried in the shoulder (!) or, I just missed it, after a few modelos. TBD

Which we took out whole cause we had the manpower and why not…

It was a strange hunt that certainly didn't feel successful most of the time!

PS. Best buck we saw was a Port Mansfield yard deer

The cows were running as soon as they hit the open area. Did you shoot the bull on the South Side? if so, it was not far from where my son shot the buck. We moved further East after only seeing deer the first few sits.

Also, on a side note, can anyone tell me why I cannot post without attaching a photo?

I can't see your pictures. Y'all were the only other truck we seen on the South side the entire time, and only that afternoon. Yes, and sorry about the High Jack

hm, I'll have to retry again later.. the fact that it shows them to me only is .... perplexing to say the least

                    Good luck out there!

If it still real cold, I would look for somewhere that is giving them protection from that north wind.

Wonder how these critters act in the cold, wind, and wet? Looks like the scouting day and first day of hunting might be a little nasty.

They aren’t big fans of really cold weather but luckily this weekend won’t be brutally cold so they should still be on the move. A couple of years ago when we had that last major freeze from snowpocalypse, a guy I know counted 50 + nilgai stacked on top of each other on the south side of a berm (not at Bahia) just getting out of that wind.

Another thing that could be useful. Years ago when I first hunted Laguna and it was cold, one of the old wardens told me to hunt a brush line in the mornings where the sun would hit.

I’m packed and got gun shooting. I was shooting and was having hesitation ignition. I had never cleaned my breech the right way. Boiled it in water and now I’m ready to leaving first thing in morning. Be good to meet a couple of you guys.
