Congrats to the hunter and his monster buck! We hunt a place a mile away from a high fence and had some big deer shot after a washout on their fence 4 years ago. I'm more interested in the story of what ranch next to the Chap it came from, or if this was truly a deer from the Chap.

I think the big time hunt coincides with the youth either sex hunt. Kids get 1/2 and the big time hunt is on the other.

Also, I think the hunter said the pasture was part of South Jay & headquarters. That does not look to be one of the 10 pastures slotted for that hunt.

That whole deal is super suspicious. I seen where the hunter was boasting about it breaking the hunter record. So he shows up, gets a compartment that is not available to other hunters and kills the record?

There are 2 pastures closed to the general public. One on the east side one on the west side. No telling what goes on there. They use to be open to the public.

I've never seen more predators and varmints on any properties than on State Parks or WMAs. Kids have been drawn for a lot of hunts this year and we see coyotes and bobcats everywhere, but no deer. I find it nearly impossible for a ranch record to come from a hunt where most bucks were 5-8 years old and averaged 125-140.

If there’s anything actually to this…this is the stuff that gets me irritated thinking about all the opportunities that are being left out of the draws and not available to us. The few hunts that I’ve been on and have close second hand knowledge of there’s always pieces of the whole property that aren’t offered up or aren’t allowed to be hunted.

again, I don’t know that’s the case here but it’s sounding suspicious if this wasn’t a big time Texas hunt deer

Well all I can tell you is this pasture was not available for others to choose when choices were sent out. The hunter apparently had 2 or 3 other really good bucks on camera as well. We hunted 1 pasture over from there and never saw any real trophy bucks. Reaper and I each shot 8.5 year old 8pts late in the hunt. Mine was really more of a seven but they managed to get 1 and 1/8 inch out of the last nub that made him and 8 pts so counted as my trophy. The entire thing seemed odd to say the least.

I’m not doubting your story one bit honestly. It doesn’t sounds far fetched coming from TPWD

It doesnt **** me off for me, but my 82 year old father was hunting with Reaper and me and had 30 points to draw...sure would have been nice if everyone was on even playing field.

When we were there on youth hunt a couple years ago, they were hosting the big time drawn hunter there at the same time. I noticed that there was a pretty big chunk of the property with no one assigned to it. When asked the biologist they said it was the area they had set aside for the big time hunt winner. They were very frustrated with the hunter they got though. Sounded like they had been baiting and scouting that unit for quite some time and knew of some big deer but the hunter would not allow them to guide him. Ended up going home empty handed.

We had the same experience on the grandkids Youth hunt, several years ago. They all had the West half for kids, and the East half for Big Time Hunt winner. Wasn't based on deer size or location, but having a quality hunt for the winner of the hunt. The largest deer from the surveys was actually in our pasture, but we never saw him. Him and his guest killed nice deer, but not monsters.

I drew in 2010 and my hunting partner killed the largest buck to date them. It was a 14 pt and scored 172 2/8" gross. David Synatsche was the manager at the time, and he was impressed!!

Congratulations to Chaparral WMA's Big Time Texas Hunt Winner Curtis and his friend Jeremy on harvesting two great south Texas bucks, 1 doe and a javelina!

Curtis's big 8 weighed in at 148 lbs and went 137 2/8 gross. Jeremy's unique 16 pointer went 177 5/8 gross non-typical and netted 170 3/8. Jeremy's buck will be entered into the Texas Wildlife Associations Texas Big Game Awards for Region 8.

I was on an archery hunt in 2013 and either Baldy or Mare pasture wasn't available (I can't remember which one). I asked the staff why not when picking compartments and they said a Big Time Hunt winner was in that compartment. They even said they had been baiting the area for the winner. I know the staff used to bait prior to youth hunts.
