    Accessing Public Land by Boat

Just curious how many on here use a boat to access public land to deer hunt. Ive found these land locked areas that are only accessible by water and especially those that are archery, muzzleloader, shotgun, ect only seem to be the ticket as they eliminate most all other hunters. This was my first year to do it with 3 deer to show for it in less than a week of hunting. Going to be planning these trips every year. There looks to be good opportunities using this strategy to kill some good deer all over the state.

Used to in Davy Crockett National Forest. There was an island once in the middle of the Neches river that I used to hunt. Back then you could only kill a forked horn buck I believe and all I ever saw were does. Used to squirrel hunt it too, killed a bunch of them.

It's nothing new in some places. I now can't count the number of boats on the river area I hunt. Used to be a thing 30+ years ago. But not any more.

Bought me a used 14ft john boat just for this reason. Will definitely be utilizing it more next year to access those hidden gems.

Sorry TG, I may be one of them boats on the river!

We use a boat for a few places, but every Tom, ****, and Harry has a boat these days and those guys all think the boat-only places are some peaceful Mecca with nobody else in there. Don't be surprised when you get to the honey hole and there's boats everywhere lol. They're a tool just like anything else. I drag my boat everywhere, I use it because I like to use it not so much to get any extra access that I couldn't hit by other means.
