Anyone get drawn yet? This is our last year in the program and I put in for a ton of hunts like I always do. So far we haven't been drawn which I guess means we for sure won't be hunting with TYHP for youth weekend. Here's to hoping for everyone's success and more specifically my son can get drawn in his last year with the program. Either way I have enjoyed the hell out of the program.

Sad to hear he hasn't been drawn. I'm on the site daily and my kids have only put in for 1 or 2 hunts due to criteria for the hunts in the overview, and our schedule with travel soccer and baseball. Of course we haven't been drawn yet. If you're interested in youth weekend I'd recommend calling the TYHP office and get on the short list for cancellations, there are always a few. But understand if you don't pick up the phone immediately because it's a number you don't recognize, then the next person may answer the phone and poof! There goes your invite. Also had a few emails and I was late to respond on those as well. Good luck to all in applications! I have one son about to age out and another who's in between ages.

Love TYHP but haven't been able to do it for years since my youngest aged out. Considered signing up as a guide or hunt master or something because I believe it's a great program and would like to pay it back. I don't know how they select these days, but my impression was that they gave preference to first time hunters, then tried to fill the girl only spots, and younger hunters. If you were selected for a number of hunts, your chances go down as they tried to work in as many first-time hunters as possible. I don't know if that's correct but it was my impression. The Texas Youth Draw hunts are random based on your points instead of a selection. Unfortunately, the kids points expire when they age out.

We got back yesterday from the East Slator TYHP hunt. He wasn't initially selected but got him in when they sent an email about a spot opening up, and was first to respond.
Absolutely wonderful hunt, awesome ranch, and incredible people that went above and beyond to get the kids a cooler full of meat. My kid struggled with his nerves, being his first hunt. Lost one, but found the second. He had a blast either way. Those kids latched up in a group and played hard and competitive outside of the blind sits. Could not have been happier or more impressed

TYHP is one of the best programs out there in my humble opinion. I highly recommend it to everyone.
My son has been fortunate enough to go on several hunts with them over the years. We got to go on two hunts this year. He will age out of the program early next month so our days of hunting with them are over but that's okay. We both want to start volunteering to help out sooner rather than later on some of these hunts.
I have a grandson being born in December (my first grand-kid) and I am already thinking of all the hunts I can take him on eventually!!!!!
Edited to add that my son did not initially draw either hunt that he went on this year. There were openings that popped up due to someone dropping out. One was pretty last minute the other was a couple weeks before the hunt.Last edited by BradBryant1000; 10-25-2024, 11:23 AM.

Your post brings back memories of my second youngest who’ll turn 18 tomorrow, when he must have been nine? shot a button buck on East slator in the wounded warrior blind lol. Guys were pretty chill about it, mostly
also third youngest got treed by a javelina there, we still kid him about it.
