Neches River NWR, Dead Water and Walnut Branch

I have been drawn for both the archery Neches River NWR, Dead Water and Walnut Branch units and would like to learn more about both the properties. If you have any information or tips on how to hunt these properties please send me a private message. Is a light tripod a must, or is sitting on a dove hunting stool good enough? How are the deer there? Numbers and quality bucks? Are hip boots or chest high waders a must?

As dry as it has been i don't think you are going go need much in the way of boots like that. A climber would be my choice or a build a good brush blind near some acorns.

      Get a good bicycle.

to be honest you need to be up in a tree and well hide. The deer are educated. Other than that…boots on the ground is the inly way to get a feel for it.

      wear snake boots

That refuge is normally open so you can go scout. I would just call or check the website to make sure it's not closed first. I also recommend a climbing stand.
