Can anyone give me some general information on hunting Davy Crockett NF? I see it is not listed in the annual hunting permit book and I could not really find anything on the USFS site that lists out all the regulations. Is there anywhere that lists all the information out and tells deer hunting rules? From what I can tell is that you have to have a APH to hunt the Alabama WMA area within Davey Crockett and must get a anterless permit from USFS otherwise it is buck only. Now is all the other area of Davey Crockett that is not in the Alabama WMA just go by regular county hunting regs? Are there any restrictions on firearms such as it being a shotgun only for deer or are rifles allowed. Sorry for all the questions but this area has been a little hard for me to get all the info on.

The areas outside Alabama WMA are not subject to the APH.. only within its boundries.
During Bow Season you may harvest a doe without a permit in the DCNF.. however during gun season you must have a USFS permit for a doe... other wise follow the TPW Hand book and harvest rules for that county and you will be ok.
There are no regulatory issues on weapons such as Shotgun ect.. EXCEPT during Muzzle loader season.
www.fs.usda.gov/texas/ Look up Davy Crockett National Forest... should have some info there
Hope this helpedLast edited by SARSpecialist; 09-20-2011, 08:52 PM.

I killed my first deer with a bow in DCNF! I was 16 years old and it was the only deer I saw all weekend. Friday - Sunday hunt and killed it at 8:00 a.m. Sunday. Little 4 point, I had never even heard of game management at that point in my life and def wouldn't shoot it today but what a trophy that was in the moment!

Got lots of practice and great advise thanks to allot of fine folks here... If I dont kill one it wont be for lack of trying
