I slammed on the breaks to and only had enough time to throw up the rifle and get a quick glimps of him through my scope before he bounced over into the davy.

To this day, that was the biggest buck i've ever seen out there (guessing 150's).

Also to this day, I dont believe we've ever harvested one over the 130's. Havn't even seen something bigger than that on our many game cams. Well, maybe one, but i'm having trouble finding that picture.

I'm thinking I have better odds these days though since I bow hunt now =)
Sam killed that 13pt year before last at 4.5. He has a fused g2/g3 on his left horn(hard to see in that pic). I killed his twin last year at 6.5 but he didnt score much better. Horns almost identical tho, same 6x7 typical frame with the same fused tines.

The buck I have been after is still there... late Saturday evening a couple squirrels started raising hell. I was watching the crossing area when I saw the Buck stick his head out look both ways and jump across the crossing in one jump, it took him about 5 seconds .. it is almost as if he knows my every move, he is an old deer and is a eight if not bigger and certainly passes the AR. You have to respect the white tail deer as it is a smart elusive animal.

He has busted me twice.. and I have seen him several times. Season is not over yet still lots of time to play cat and mouse..

Tried any lures to see if he'll hang around or be more tempted to come out?

I could be wrong but I've always thought those things have a tendency to scare away more deer than they attract (unless you're using them for the purposes of nationally televised hunting show. In that case not a deer for miles can resist them ).

That's all that has ever happened when I tried the stuff. They couldn't have run faster if I'd jumped out of the bushes and slapped 'em on the rear.

Never had much luck with scents.. funny thing last week.. I grunted.. he grunted back.. I grunted he grunted ( a buck grunted) not sure if it was " ghost " .. he was out of site but I could hear him walking.. then he snorted and it went quiet.. NO way he smelled me.. I told my dad about him and he just smiled and told me that if I take this type of deer it will take lots of patients.. I believe that.. saw a 4 pnt this evening and two does, rattling has not worked so I am changing my stand again to try to catch him leaving the area. I have came to the conclusion that its almost as much fun as playing hide and seek.. EXCEPT he knows the playing field WAY better than I..

                          Scents and lures...

I was curious if any one has had any luck with these in the NF.. I have not; and if one brand or type works better than another I will give it a try.

My suggestion, for what it's worth, would be to use a minimalist approach to hunting this deer. He's mature for a reason and I would suspect if he detects anything that's not right in his core area he may booger up for the remainder of the season; or worse, leave the area entirely.

He'll eventually slip up. Just keep doing what you're doing.

The buck I killed above in this thread, i called in with an estres bleet from 100yards out. He was about to dissapear into the davy and i rolled that can bleet one time. He stopped, looked, and turned and headed straight to me. Popped him @ 10 yards. Primos "The Can" - the middle sized can (there are 3 sizes).

Thats about the only lure that has worked for me since i've started trying them.
