I'll be there this year.I camp at Ratliff and hunt not far down the road.Maybe we can get together and do some scouting this summer.

I plan on scouting it for the first time, there is talk of the public land I hunt now being turning into lottery, and DC is one of the public areas open all season to hunters that are closest to my house, plus the lease hasn't impressed me too much lately. If what I hear is true there will be alot of new hunters using davey crockett come 2009.

good!, im sure hardly any will know where to go to score big. it took me 2 years to finaly get where i saw deer and nice bucks almost every sitting. pm me and ill tell you some spots so you dont waste your time where everyone else will be. also, even if it gets quite a bit more hunters, it wont be an where near crowded....last year there were a total of 7 hunters at least where i camped when normally is full with about a hundred. most of the people that go to hunt it that arent from around there only think you can hunt the alabama wma....last year it was 2 buck, hope it stays that way this year. lots of deer and hogs though and scouting good should def help you score....also during bow season dont think i ever saw more than 5 guys hunting...so great time to take advantage of that.

rooster- i hunt the place with 3 other guys/buddies of mine....we are heading out for another trip in mid august. you are free to meet up and camp with us and do some scouting

Scouting is the KEY

Davy Crocket has a lot of good areas to hunt. I shot two 8-pts and 1 doe last year all during bow season. I saw 9 different bucks all during bow season. I have hunted up there for about 8 years now through high school and college. I have killed 7 bucks and 1 doe in that time.

I will be there but I am not sure how much due to work. The forest is huge and there are a lot of places that go unhunted year after year while others get hammered every day. Now is the best time to figure out where others hunt if you can remember where they were parked from last year. Find the opposite side of thickets, clearcuts, or the next patch of woods across a pasture and you will see deer once the smokepoles get warm.

Dude you just stopped texting me lol. Ill be there opening weekend. Doubt I can stay the whole week. When were you planning on going and scouting anytime before the opening weekend? Let me know ill tag along if I can.

one of the other guys got a button buck that he thought was a doe but was still able to use his permit on it. Saw one guy at the gas station in Ratcliff that was hosing off his deer in the parking lot. A little six pointer that was no where near legal. Everybody was giving him the evil eye when one guy walked up to him and showed him in the annual that his deer wasn't legal. He claimed he had no idea and proceeded to get the heck out of dodge.

There are no antler restriction in the couties for the national forest that I am aware of. I could be wrong.

All of davey crockett will be under the antler restrictions in 2009, green ones are current AR counties, orange ones are 2009 AR counties.

will be going on saturday august 30th i think if cody (txsuperdad23) can make it then. i will be camping in the big slough

dfw archer is correct, they have good genes there though and lots of bucks are 13" +
