    Public land rifles?

Is there any public land you can hunt hogs with a rifle?

I wouldn't want to be on them if you could.

Sam Houston National Forest is one. I think the other national forest also allow rifles for pig hunting.

All the national forests and Alazan Bayou WMA just that I can think of off the top of my head. You can bait for them at Alazan, not that you would need to, they are as thick as fleas on a dogs back.

For whats its worth I have spend hundreds of hours on public land during an open rifle season and never felt uncomfortable. For someone to shoot you whilst you are wearing the required orange would not be an accident but murder. You stick out like a sore thumb.

FYI: Alazan is shotgun and muzzleloader only for pigs during non-deer season. Drops to bow only during deer season. Rifles are not allowed on the property even for squirrel (recent change to the rules).

+1 Never hunted anything but national forest and never felt nervous. Most folks use their head plus you can see the blaze orange a mile off even through brush.

I have never even see another hunter! I hunt during middle of the week mostly and it usually involves hiking in terms of miles, but that's just me. (Sam Houston)

I grew up in Appleby and there was some public land near us in the sandflats and someone got shot every year out there even while wearing orange. Mostly because they saw and heard movement in the brush and just shot into it not knowing what it was. One dude was shot while crouching over a dead tree taking a dump. I'm sticking with bow only public land.

Guys the original poster was asking where he could hunt pigs with a rifle, not if he should hunt public land where rifles are allowed. Let's answer his question not turn this into an argument.

Nothing against bow hunting, i love it as well, just bought a new ar, and would like to use it once in a while as well. But where I am located, I could probably go to a day lease just as cheap as gas to a public area. Thanks for all the info.
