trouble with hogs on white oak wma

hunted white oak for the first time 2 days ago found a spot with deer sign and jumped 5 hogs hunted all day and right at dark a herd of hogs come threw never walked out of the thicket. started getting to dark and had to climb down (forgot my flashlight) while packing up my climber the hogs surrounded me grabed my bow and nocked a arrow took one step and one monster hog ran right at me stucked him with a arrow i grabed another arrow from my quiver and stuck it in the ground to mark my spot where i shot the hog (5 yards in front of my) it had a lighted nock. Started walking to the main trail when i heard something so i stoped and nocked another arrow took 2 steps and had 3 hogs running straight for me but this time i had to get out of the way backed up bout 20 yards and the 3 hogs turned around and charged me again this time i darted to the trail droped my climber and ran a few yards thinking the hogs would not follow well i was wrong they followed me halfway back to the truck. well made it to the truck safely and called a buddy had him meet me so we could tracked the hog that i shot we tracked the blood about a hundred yards then had a herd of hogs come threw my buddy made the mistake and shined the light on one hog that was about 50 yards away I'm guessing that ****** him off a little and he ran up straight to us we both climbed a tree that hog stayed 5 yards away for atleast 5 minutes. Ive had lots of encounters with hogs and killed a few never in my hunting career has something like this happend I'm sharing my story so that every hunter be caution with this wild animals oh and the hog i shot hit a water hole and we lost the blood trail looked for hours Also if anybody hunts white oak area wouldnt mind a hunting buddy I dont no anybody else that hunts the land and after that night wouldnt mind it. thanks and good luck

ha naw wasnt wearing sow in heat, and hass0311 white oak is located north east texas close to texas arkansas line near the texarkana area. havent seen a deer on there yet but the hogs have tore up the land

Had the same thing happen to me at SHNF about 5 years ago. I had a rifle with one bullet in it at the time. Couldnt see through the scope as it was dark( i was walking in). everyway i would shine my headlamp i saw hogs, and they kept charging at me and stopping at the last minute. was surrounded and didn't know what to do so i finally kind of just ran forward, climber and all, and they didn't follow. Have been on the same trail countless times again since then...have never seen another one.

I had all most the same thing this year at the San Angelo State Park. I was bow hunting and packing my trusty 41 mag. At SASP you have to hand feed so I was carring in a small sack of corn when heard something following me. Shine my light didn't see anything so keeped walking. Thats when one ran right in front of me. They begain snorten I had the 41 drawen out and was walking as fast as I could 1/2 mile to my stand. Got to the stand and poured the corn and before I could sat down they were allready eatting the corn. I could see them and by the moon light but just my luck my sight light batteries are dead. I ended up counting 10 and they ate the corn and was gone by day light. I don't hunt with out the 41 mag.

yea i was looking into getting my chl but wasnt sure if i could carry it on wma land my question was answered so will defintly be signing up to take the class now . i'm planning on going back tommorrow maybe in the morining but defintly in the evening will keep updated thanks for the stories thought i might be the only one this happend to...oh anybody else gonna be hunting whiteoak over the next few weeks?? thanks

all the more reason to be scared of the dark

i have never been charged except when one was hurt or i was in its way of escape. i can only imagine how frightening that must be to be surrounded and all.

i used to hunt ducks at white oak and have had a sounder of pigs swim across the slew we were set up on, a few of them got all wrapped up in decoy lines and drug off a few of the dekes.

that was on the north end next to that big ranch

Brosco ranch I believe I'm hunting the far east end lots of sign and have only seen one guy out there in 2weeks hopfully I want have any more encounter unless I'm 25 feet in the air ha
