WOW seems like there needs to be some kind of public hearing or something before they make these types of decissions. I mean it is a federally funded program or am I missing something? Why is it TPWD has public imput in its decission making process but C.O.E., does not?

<CRYING>
Got a letter from the Corp today. Looks like I got drawn for SECOND SEASON! Feb 8th - June 30th 2010. Not too happy about this right now, considering I have no other place to really hunt. There goes my duck hunting and deer hunting for the season.
I guess I can hope for another letter with a first season permit....

Does anyone have an idea who they have to report to? I know that the Corps are a branch of the Army, but they are civil at the same time. I don't quite have the answer, but when I do, LOOK OUT!

I was at the Vine at least 10-12 times mostly on the weekend and saw one person out there for the deer season. That was my only hunting place. I moved from Michigan where public land is a plenty, and was shocked to learn of this lack of public land in Texas. I was lucky enough to find out about the draw one day before it closed just because I was trying to be early on what I thought was going to be an unlimited amount of permits this year. Haven't gotten the letter saying I was picked, BUT I NEVER got the letter they sent telling me of the draw system either. They said they sent over 700 letters or so explaining the draw. I have yet to hear from anyone who actually got that explanation letter. This is a complete lack of competence on their end.
I personally think 75 permits is way below par for the number. I'm also sickened to learn of BulletPushers conversation with them validating their complete lack of research in coming up with the program. I'm certainly not against a draw system, but I am completely against a draw system which seems to be created by the seat of their pants with possibly little to no research which would warrant their program.
This shouldn't go unattended. Do we have any TBH'ers interested in drumming up a professional concern letter and getting signatures from fellow TBH'ers stating our disappointment on how unprofessionally, and poorly this was handled?
I shot my first and only buck ever with a bow out there last year. It was a small basket 8, but a trophy to me. I also saw a beauty of an 8 out there as well just out of range. I was looking to take doe or a shooter buck this year now that I have my furst buck under my belt and help out the management of the animals there. Sure this new draw will help manage the deer, but I think it does more distress to the public hunter there on how it was handled this year.
Good luck to all who get a permit and have a safe succesful hunt this year at the Vine.

Just doesn't seem right. I've lived within ten minutes of the public hunting area at Grapevine going on six years now. Such a great place to get away right in our own backyards. I should send them a thank you letter. I have a feeling this is the beginning of the end for archery hunting out there. Wouldn't surprise me if it was closed to hunting within the next couple of years.

I am a local gvine resident and also recieved my permit Monday, got lucky and stopped in 2 days before the drawing, the lady seemed clueless when i asked about the permits. I started walking out and she said oh the hunting drawing? Anyway good luck to all who recieve permits.
