Ok, I have made my decision, but I would like to hear what you have to say. I am going to get the Nikon D60 with 18-55mm vr lens from bh photo. I also want to get a good 55-200 lens as well. This will only be a hobby for me and i am new, so i dot want to drop a ton of cash. Does anybody have any suggestions on the lens, and does everybody think the D60 will work for me?

The D40, D50, and D60 are all great bodies, with one major drawback. They are unable to fully utilize several styles of lenses. Here are their limitations:
AF-S and AF-I NIKKOR: All functions supported
Type G or D AF NIKKOR not equipped with an autofocus motor: All functions supported except autofocus.
Type G or D AF NIKKOR not equipped with an autofocus motor: All functions supported except autofocus.
IX-NIKKOR and AF-NIKKOR for F3AF not supported.
Type D PC NIKKOR: All functions supported except some shooting modes.
This means that several of the older style lenses will not work or will only work in manual mode with an aperature ring on the lense. It's been frustrating trying to buy cheap glass for my D40.
That being said if I had it to do all over again I'd pony up the extra cash for a D80.

Also when looking at getting your first telephoto, I would suggest that you take a close look at the Nikor 70-300 G the US version can usually be picked up for around $100. I have to use the manual focus on my D40 but the vibrance of the colors that come out of that lense beats my other lenses hands down. Even my Nikor 60mm 2.8 D
I'm hoping to upgrade to a 55-200 2.8 soon, but my 70-300G will never be sold, I'll use it till I can't use it anymore and buy a new one!
